“A sharp knife is one of the most important tools a chef owns. Before kicking off back to back charters here in Newport, Rhode Island, I made a stop at the local farmers market to get my knives professionally sharpened. As chefs, we spend a lot of time focusing on recipes and techniques, but great food always starts with great ingredients and the right tools. Whenever possible, I shop local first. Organic is important to me, but if I have the choice, I’ll often choose local because it supports the people growing, raising, and producing food right in the community. Fresh, local ingredients tell the story of a place, and that’s something I love bringing to the table for my guests. The Newport farmers market did not disappoint. Fresh produce, local vendors, an incredible cold pressed juice, live music, and one of the coolest knife sharpening craftsmen you’ll ever meet. The energy was amazing, and it’s a reminder that some of the best food experiences start long before you step into the kitchen. Now the knives are razor sharp, the yacht is stocked, and it’s time to get cooking.
