In October, check what’s currently ripe before you go. Seasons below are typical windows for New York, not a guarantee for this exact farm.
Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in New York.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“A great reminder of my childhood picking berries. I took my adult children today to Awald Farms - as they were in town, visiting. It’s a fun and safe way to do something special during these unprecedented times. Highly recommended. It’s not just about getting berries. It’s about the EXPERIENCE! But, the berries are really good, too. A wonderful family operation! Friendly people. Got meet and talk with their family members. Four generations doing something they love. Easy to get to North Collins from the Buffalo area... Just a short drive on U.S. 62 just south of Hamburg and Eden. Get out, get some fresh air and pick berries!!! #SupportLocal #SupportFarmers #AwaldFarms”

“I took my son and his friend here. They had a blast! The staff was super friendly, there were plenty of berries to choose from, and the kids had fun picking their favorite berries. Whenever we went to the ice cream section for a treat, the kids were sad to see we missed it by 10 minutes. Whenever the employee walked out, she could have just said, "Sorry, we are closed up." But she got the kids ice cream with enthusiasm and was very professional! The whole experience went wonderful! Thank you Awake Farms for making our out of town visit an amazing one!!!!”

“If you want to support a wonderful local family farm and have a fun time while doing so, then Awald Farms is the place for you. My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time picking strawberries today and will be back later in the summer to pick raspberries and blueberries. We met the owner himself, an 82 year old man who is "thinking" about retiring this year and we also met his son who will be taking over the family farm whenever Ed decides to retire. Looking forward to going back! Support local farms!”

“A great place to go with the family! Kids and adults alike love it. Everyone working there were very friendly and helpful! Teaches children to focus and relax away from electronics. It was a very relaxing and peaceful trip! The blueberries 🫐 were scrumptious and were organic! 10/10 would definitely come again and recommend!”

The picking area is huge so you're not right on top of each other. Just a reminder Bring water, hat sunscreen, and comfortable shoes. 👍 🍓 Enjoy picking 🍓”

“One of the only U-Pick farms in WNY where you can find black raspberries!! In my mind, that makes it a gem. Staff at the farm stand are always super friendly and polite; they make you feel welcome. Very reasonable prices for U-Pick, anywhere from $3.75 to $5 per quart, depending on the type of berry you're picking. In addition to selling already-picked berries, the farm stand also offers an assortment of maple and other farm products, berries by the bag (suitable for freezing), and they even have their own little café serving sundaes, milkshakes, hot dogs, etc. I'm a little disappointed in the black raspberry crop this year; they are not very plentiful. However, that probably has more to do with weather. I'm not going to hold it against the farm. I'm glad to have found Awald Farms. I enjoy coming here. Bonus: the drive to get here is beautiful, especially on a warm and sunny summer day! From Buffalo, avoid I-90 and take the 219 to Boston instead, then follow your way along country backroads. You won't regret taking the scenic route!”

“I'm disappointed in the integrity of the owners of this place. We drove out there over the weekend to buy their advertised 5-pound basket of berries. When we got home and portioned out the berries for freezing, it turned out that we received only 4 pounds, 2 ounces of berries. (Shame on me for not bringing our kitchen scale.) I contacted them to see what they could do to make up for shorting me and they said that baskets contained different weights of product. (Isn't weighing 5 pounds a fairly easy measurement, regardless of the basket size?) To make up for it, they offered to weigh out the missing 14 ounces for me if I was willing to make the 40-minute round trip to their place. I let them know that it wasn't worth the trip for that and they pretty much said, "Oh well, whatever." I'm sure they have loyal customers that just love their business. I'll probably never be one of them. Update: So they responded to my review, but never bothered to address why they don't actually weigh their baskets when charging folks for five pounds, then try to deflect by blaming COVID, like that's part of the reason they shorted me. My review stands. Don't assume that you're getting what you pay for from them.”
