What you can pick
In August, check what’s currently ripe before you go. Seasons below are typical windows for Iowa, not a guarantee for this exact farm.
Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Iowa.
- Check whether this stop is a stand, orchard tour, or full farm experience before you arrive.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“I love the Berry Patch Farm! If you've never been, it's on a U-pick farm on a gravel road outside of Nevada, Iowa, and you only pay for what you decide to take home. Every time I've gone, they've had a variety of fruits to pick, as well as many already picked and packaged fruits/vegetables available to purchase at the kiosk. Their produce is really good quality, and with new ownership, they've expanded to add flowers. They update their Facebook and website frequently, and offer very fair prices. It's a fun quick day trip for fresh food.”

“Must visit place in Iowa! Very well maintained farm with many beautiful and tasty Berry options. Be sure to check their social media or website to see what’s available before you go! The price per pound is on the higher side BUT there is no admission fee. Feels more peaceful and less commercialized than others patches in the area. All the staff are incredibly nice and helpful as well. We will absolutely be back.”

“We have visited this small family farm a few times and have had a good experience. We want our kids to know where their food comes from. At this farm , you can show yourself around and pick your own produce depending on what's in season. They have a good variety of produce. They also sell their own honey. This place is not full of gimmicks or a zoo, and that is why we like it.”

“We took our grandkids there to get some pumpkins and apples. You won't find a more lovingly run, sustainably managed orchard. Kudos to Dean, Judy & Mike and their wonderful crew. One of the Jewels of Iowa.”

“Our family loves coming here. It's a very welcoming and peaceful place. I like how they've increased some things inside the little store. There's something for everyone in there, t-shirts, honey, jam, and I got some plums from the cooler that were delicious. We'll be back before the season ends for a few more apples and pumpkins.”

“Many fields of different berries to pick from. The only thing was finding the rows that had not been picked recently. We picked an area that had some good berries, then moved to a different field and found an abundance. Next time, we will look around more before diving in.”
