What you can pick

In August, check what’s currently ripe before you go. Seasons below are typical windows for Illinois, not a guarantee for this exact farm.

Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Illinois.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“We had the most wonderful experience!! We visited later in the day and were the only ones there on their beautifully maintained walking path through the wildflowers. If you like flowers, birds, butterflies, or dragonflies THIS is the place for you!! We returned the next morning and cut wildflowers which were expertly arranged in a jar by the owner while we went blackberry picking.”

“I was introduced to this place by a friend and we recently visited during special evening hours. What a beautiful and peaceful place! We walked the trails, tasted a couple of blackberries, and picked our own bouquets. The staff/owners of BHF arranged them beautifully for us! Thanks for creating such a place and sharing its beauty!”

“Nice flower farm, lots of flower trails to walk and places to sit and enjoy the views.. My favorite is in the barn!!! Jelly, candles, room sprays and flower seeds for sale! Owners are knowledgeable and share information on the seeds and when and how to plant them. Plus today we did a special Fliwer Arranging class, so fun!!”

“This orchard/farm is so quiet and relaxing. The blackberries are kept manicured and are so easy to pick. The you pick flowers are so plentiful and beautiful. We love the swings at the fire pit and the walking trails. They also have a pavilion where you can bring a picnic or snack to enjoy while you are there.”

“First time here. We came on a Sunday afternoon the beginning of July and it wasn’t busy at all. When we went if you filled up a white bucket of blackberries, it would cost $20. You can also pick flowers. There is also a walking trail. Definitely recommend visiting. Parking available around the main building.”

“Very cute little spot for family fun or a dates! They are adding lots of events this year and their blackberries and fresh cut flowers are awesome! Such a cute spot hidden away from the world, I definitely plan to go back out for many more visits and try the walking trails out next!”

“Beautiful place! The service from the owner is fantastic. Went and picked flowers and there were a abundance to pick from and they were arranged beautifully. Great time for the whole family. Lots of butterflies to keep you company.”
