Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in New York.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“I brought an elderly, somewhat mobility challenged family member to allow them the thrills of apple season. They were easily able to walk around the country store where I bought a half bushel of apples for under $25(pictured below). They offer the "pick your own" experience, but the prices are a little higher. Tomatoes, garlic, squash, pumpkins, cheese, and mums were available. The two women running the fudge counter were sisters; they took my apples and found a cart for me. They offered a variety of fudge, including sugar-free options. It was a perfect way to spend an afternoon. We set on the porch to rest, then onto the bakery. They offered ice cream, pies, cider donuts, gourmet cookies, pastries, and more pies. A great afternoon, great prices, very helpful staff. Great destination.”

“This is a great orchard for picking apples in the Albany area. They had at least 16 different varieties the day we were picking apples. You pay a fixed price for 1/2 bushel, and are given one large white plastic bag, which cost $38.00. This will give you 20-25 lbs of apples, so the price is pretty good. The variety is astonishing. They also have bags of apples for sale, and Bowman-made ice cream for sale in cup or cone. The portions are huge! There are a lot of flavors. They have a play place for children and goats to pet. We had a fun afternoon. There were a lot of people there, but because the place is so big, they are all spread out in the orchards. Go find your favorite flavor!!”

“We had a wonderful visit to Bowman Orchards in New York. The orchard is beautiful, well-maintained, and offers a great family-friendly atmosphere. The staff was welcoming and helpful, and there was plenty to do for both kids and adults. The fresh apples, baked goods, and cider were outstanding, and the scenery made for a perfect day outdoors. Whether you’re picking fruit, enjoying the farm market, or just taking in the views, Bowman Orchards provides a memorable experience. We look forward to visiting again and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing day in the Hudson Valley area. By far, the best orchard in the area!!”

“If you looking for snapdragon apples this is the best place. We make sure to get their pies for Thanksgiving. They also have a very cute country store and I love the October family events. I haven't tried the fruit picking yet but been going for the family events since my birthday is around fall. Used to do this a lot with Mom when I was younger and places like this existed in California. We now make it our new family ritual for the past 4 years.”

“This place is huge. Right now they have apples, raspberries and pumpkins available for U-pick. At other times of the year they have cherries, peaches, strawberries, blackberries and probably more. They have 60+ varieties of apples. Inside the general store you can buy fresh veggies, fruits, sacks of apples, and all manner of fancy "homemade" or canned salad dressings, snacks, candles, gifts, cider, baked goods, and more. We enjoyed this stop.”

“This is an orchard that is a great playground as well as apple picking. It is one of our favorite places. I like to bring together the most delicious version of cider donut and apple juice here. The nature is very beautiful. The apples are extremely delicious and juicy. I hope I can find the opportunity to come back before the season ends.”

“Really nice farm - plenty of you-pick options. Serving great ice cream now. On the weekends in the Fall they have a food truck(s). Great unique items for sale in the shop. Farmer's market in fridge section. Fresh peaches, cherries, apples, loved shopping there. Nice Christmas area. It was my first time, but won't be my last.”

“My family and I had fun here! Picking our own apples was a fun little challenge. Purchasing a bag from them to do so instead of weighing at the end made for a quick and easy exit. It was easy to navigate the apple trees with their map and trolley ride.”
