Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in California.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“All around great outing. Got fresh, firm, sweet cherries at better than reasonable price. Trees are healthy and plenty of low hanging fruit for the young ones. My only disappointment would be the Bings were not ready. I would like to go to their late picking to do some preserves. If you like cherries and being out doors and choosing the fruit you bring home then you can't go wrong. Bring your own 5 gal. Bucket.”

“Love this place. We went twice last year (2021). Once for early pick and once for late pick. Both are great. Cherries are very sweet and price is unbeatable. My kids have lots of fun. There are lots of shade to stay out of sun. You can have a picnic there. During late pick, you will need to locate a ladder so you can reach big cherries on the top of trees.”

“Podesta Farms is a class act! Register on line as it's invite only due to COVID regulations and you can buy a bucket there for $5!! It's cash only which is a mistake we made but we won't do that twice. We got 8 lbs of cherries for $17 but more importantly we had a good time as a family!”

“Had a fun time picking cherries with the family! To join though, you need an invite. They had sweet cherries, really sour ones, and a whole spectrum in the middle, you just have to taste first to find the tree you like! Recommend bringing some sun protection, a bucket, and water!”

“Register online. Weekend only. Bring a ladder. Season closes mid-June. Plenty of low hanging fruit. Look for trees with flags. Pay by the gallon today, pay by weight last week. Trunks painted where necessary. Perfect experience. Very informative, just ask.”
