A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Virginia.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“This is a fun place to pick strawberries or blueberries with kids and grandkids. The fields are large enough to accommodate larger crowds and the plants are bountiful. A playground and farm animals add to the fun for kids. Then finish it off with homemade ice cream or sorbet. A perfect morning.”

“We went to Culpepper Farm to pick some strawberries and we had a fun experience. There were plenty of berries to pick. They also had fresh produce, herbs and bread to purchase. The sourdough was amazing. My daughter aslo got their icecream and she loved it. The strawberries were very sweet.”

“We had an amazing time!! I loved that the owner drove the hayride and stopped and told us about the farm and cows. The apple cider donuts were one of the best donuts i have ever had. The whole farm is awesome!”

“I drove 15 miles each way to buy fresh quality produce. As soon as I bit into my first peach, it was mushy and almost tasteless. It is a shame that during tough economic times, we have to pay so much money for low quality. People who claim that the peaches and cantaloupes are great must never have eaten good quality fruit. Cantaloupe was soft, but had no taste. I am just disgusted with the products that I am paying for these days.”
