A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Virginia.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.

“We could not have picked a better venue for our wedding! You can save on your decorating budget at Doe Creek because the landscape and architecture is gorgeous! A contract with Doe Creek will give you a complimentary Day of Coordinator who is amazing! She is very organized and friendly. Brides and bridesmaids get access to the air conditioned farmhouse to get ready. Grooms and groomsmen can get dressed in the air conditioned reception hall. Doe Creek provides all linens, tables, gold chiavari chairs for the reception, and white chairs for the ceremony. They even provided shepherds hooks and mason jars for the ceremony decor as well as white lace table runners. They take care of all clean up and tear down of their own stuff. Their bartenders were courteous and professional. There is also a gorgeously decorated cocktail hour lounge under the reception hall which is a converted apple packing house.”

“I recently visited Doe Creek Farm for apple picking – my third visit in the past five years – and it never disappoints! The orchard is beautifully maintained with scenic surroundings, making it the perfect spot for a day trip. They have decent varieties of apple trees, each column labeled with name cards, which makes finding your favorites easy and enjoyable. At the end of my visit, I tried their hot apple cider – and wow, it was delicious! This time, I also learned they occasionally host events. If you’re interested, you can find more details on their website. Doe Creek Farm has definitely become a favorite, and I can’t wait to return next season!”

“This is one of the best U-pick apple orchards you will ever visit. Beautifully located in the mountains with great views, immaculately well maintained and clean orchard, and easy to pick dwarf trees. Kids can actually help pick at this orchard with no worries of being lost. Great apple prices and lots of varieties. Be sure to visit their website for the latest ripe varieties and get there early to make sure you get their delicious cider. My family drives down here from Northern VA every season for their apples. Always worth it.”

“Doe Creek Farm is a fantastic place to pick apples in a beautiful mountainous setting that the whole family can enjoy! The large property is well maintained and easy to access with many outstanding views of the surrounding countryside. They grow several types of apples, eating and baking varieties, that are a short walk from the parking area. In addition to lots of fresh apples they also have delicious fresh cider to purchase as well. We are hoping to make picking apples here an annual tradition!”

“Brought my mom here for our annual apple picking. The views were amazing and so many apple!! I highly recommend this place!”

“Nice place, great apples but they were out of cider :( Updated to 4 stars - We went back at the end of the week and they had cider. If they smooth the entrance road would give them 5 🌟.”

“Beautiful setting! Gorgeous orchards. Before you come be aware NO CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED!! We had to go back into town for cash. Also, long bumpy drive in if you have health issues.”

“There were very limited trees available for picking apples. The apples on the trees were not ripe enough and should not have been available to pick. The place was so busy, people were picking apples off the ground. Also, it is almost a mile on a dirt road to get to the orchard. I would recommend visiting a larger orchard. It is not worth the trip if you are actually there to pick apples. It is great for the scenery but not for apple picking.”
