A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Indiana.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.

“We just so happened to drive by this orchard that we had no idea was even there and decided to stop. Dougherty Apple Orchard on Troy avenue in Marion, Indiana is the place you want to visit! We were looking to get apples to make Jam, pie filling and pies with. They were so helpfull with all of the knowledge and information that they shared with us to enable us to make what we want. We walked away with a bushel of mixed apples split in 2 bags and marked for jams and pies. They even carried our apples to our vehile for us! We were able to taste the apples as they were describing them to get a feel for the taste and firmness. Let me tell you now that the price was fantastic! We visited two other orchards yesterday and the prices don't even compare! They even have U pick apples. Starting soon they will have the store open to sell cider and other products. I highly suggest that give them a visit. You will not be disappointed! Knowledgeable staff · Great selection · Convenient location”

“I love coming here to pick apples from the tree. Without doubt I know they are fresh. I had a person at a farmers market tell me, when asked, if they were that years apples he said yes. I bought a bag excited to get fresh apples only to bite into one and not only was there no crunch but it was like mush in my mouth. I will not buy from any other place. Plus the owners are personable and knowledgeable. And varieties that you won't find in the store. My 2 favorites are Orleans and Stayman. So good.”

“I had a great time visiting Dougherty’s today. I had a great conversation with the owners and learned a lot about the family business. The apple cider is delicious. I also purchased several apples and some honey. It’s a beautiful place to visit that is close to Marion. I’m grateful for my time here and appreciate the conversation with Anna and her husband. I will be back!”

“We had an amazing time at this little family owned orchard. The owners are knowledgeable and very friendly. If your looking for a you pick orchard away from all the crowds this is the place! They also had a great selection of pumpkins and gourds. Oh, and the cider is absolutely amazing! This will be our go to orchard for years to come, we highly recommend!”

“What a great U-Pick. So many varieties to choose from and more than reasonably priced. It's family owned and run. The owner walked me out to the trees, asking what type of apple I was looking for to point me in the right direction. So worth the drive! 🍎🍏 (and check out how beautiful the pie filling turned out! So delicious)”

“Me, my wife, and kids love coming here to pick apples! We especially love their homemade Apple cider!! And they have our kids and me a ride on their tractor which was awesome! Our favorite apples are the pearly pinks (I think they are called that) and they ran out too fast last year so go early to get those ones!”

“Wonderful experience, it was toward the end of the apple picking season but we were able to get 10 pounds of Golden Delicious straight from the trees! We spent time talking to the couple who runs the Orchard and had a great time. It’s a wonderful family ran business and I will be continuing to support them!”

“Wonderful family apple orchard! The owners were helpful, kind and knowledgeable. We left with a huge variety of apples, beautiful pumpkins, fresh apple cider and honey. We will definitely be back again soon!”
