Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Maine.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

What visitors say

“Don’t miss this hidden gem with a unique and delicious wide variety of heirloom and rare organic apples, pears, and peaches. Run by the kind and unassuming Farmer Ralph who also happens to be an incredibly gifted painter. His gallery where he displays his and others’ paintings is at the farm and prices are very reasonable.”
“My family and I went to Elwell organic orchard today and had a blast. We had a VIP tour of all the orchards along with recipes to make when we got home. My kids enjoyed feeding the pigs. Such a reasonable price for organic apples, pears and squash. Don't pass this gem by!”
“Our family had lots of fun exploring and learning about different uses for apples. The orchard has delicious pears, peaches, and a large variety of apples. There is also an art gallery on site with beautiful paintings! We will be back!”
“Great selection of apples. Beautiful farm. Ralph has an amazing knowledge of apples, and is an excellent orchardman. Ralph grafted many of our trees.”
“Awesome place and wonderful friendly owner”
“An orchard full of organic heirloom apples. The only downside is that most of the trees weren't labeled and there was no map to refer to. I'd visit again.”
