Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Minnesota.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Our family loves visiting Farm LoLa. We have the funnest times picking berries. The owners are kind, considerate, and helpful. Whether going for the first time or hundredth, they allow you to try the different varieties of honeyberries. This allows you to better decide which varieties out of those ripe you would like to pick. The blueberries are a short jaunt from the parking. We’ve been offered rides when arriving to pick. It’s not that far and a lovely walk. One time a chicken was out. The owner allowed my children to help round it up. It didn’t stray far from their enclosure. My children enjoyed helping. The berries, eggs, and syrup are delicious! Plus Love Creamery in Duluth makes a great ice cream with their honeyberries. Although in all honesty, making our own deliciousness with their berries and eggs is the best choice. This is our favorite u-pick farm in Minnesota thanks to those we’ve met at the farm, beauty of the location, and love of what we have purchased.”

“Stayed here for a long weekend and had a great time. We had no idea Jay Cooke state park was nearby but it was great to visit. Lucie and Jason were great hosts and my family loved helping with the chickens. Gathering eggs and catching escapees was a wonderful memorable experience. The ladder to the top level in the Perch cabin is steep but my 4 year old was able to climb it all by himself by day 2. I wouldn't climb those stairs while drunk but they were easy enough as long as I went slow. The main level fold out couch/bed was also super comfortable unlike so many others. It was a pleasant pastoral experience and I found it to be relaxing and Lucie was kind enough to entertain us in conversation. Jason and Brett answered all our questions and it was a great value. The memories my child will have of feeding chickens and catching them in nets makes it all worth it. Definitely bring a designated chicken area pair of shoes though.”

“Me and my 12-yo are staying here (AirB-n-Bawk) for a second time because it's such a fun experience. This time we are in the Perch, a lofted tiny house with a kitchenette, a lofted bed, and a convertible couch-bed. It's bright and airy and cozy. Lucie and Brett are amazing hosts. My 12-yo loves the chickens, helping with the chores, and rustic/quaint atmosphere. The Perch beats the Nest in creature comforts but that was fun, last time, because of your proximity to the hens. The farm also has berry picking and sells eggs for general consumption.”

“Stayed on the farm a night through Harvest Host. Ended up getting honey and maple syrup. Both were fantastic. We enjoyed our time walking around the farm, seeing the chickens, and exploring the fields of berries. They have a farm dog that welcomed us the second we opened vehicles door. He is extremely friendly and did not bother my own dogs at all.”

“We had a great experience visiting and overnighting. We stayed in our RV and had the opportunity to round up the chickens at night and let them loose in the morning. The breakfast I made from the fresh eggs was simply delicious. The texture and color of the eggs when prepared really shows the different free range makes in quality.”

“We love Farm LoLa. We have been berry picking the past 3 years with my toddlers and each time we visit it is an exceptional and memorable time. They are so kind, knowledgeable, and have perfected the process to make it easy and fun. Their dedication to their farm and the community is extraordinary. Make the visit, you won’t regret it!”

“Picked honey berries today, such a fun and unique experience. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. While there, check out their chickens!”
