“If you’re reading this and Foundroot is open, I recommend ambling your way over immediately with a good book or a friend. The coffee is fantastic and the baked goods are the best in town. Nick and Leah have created a friendly and sweet community-oriented space. While you’re there, pick up a gift for that friend or family member of yours who likes to cook or garden from their amazing little shop of thoughtful, high quality items, and know that you’re supporting a young family in Haines that’s doing so much to advocate for a better community and a more sustainable, resilient world.”

Whether you’re browsing their thoughtfully curated products, enjoying a cup of coffee, or learning about their mission to support local food systems, you can feel the dedication and heart that goes into every detail. The menu is consistently flavorful, nourishing, and satisfying Foundroot is more than just a shop—it’s a gathering place that strengthens the community and celebrates local food culture. Highly recommended for locals and visitors alike!”

“My favorite place to get excited for spring! I’m always inspired by the heirloom seeds and quality gardening supplies. Also a great selection for birthday, Christmas, or treat yourself gifts. The bake set for toddlers was a hit for my son and niece. My son’s great grandma always asks for some of their beautiful linen towels when we do an Alaska gift round up. We know it’s summer when we can hit the shop three days a week (our favorite is Saturday with the farmers market run) for tasty, farm-direct coffee and delicious home-made/local ingredient baked goods!”

“Foundroot is truly one of Haines gems! It’s one of our favorite spots to shop for sustainable gifts, open-pollinated and heirloom seeds, and enjoy a delicious latte and pastry. Be sure to keep an eye out for their incredible food pop-ups—the halibut enchiladas are a personal fave! You can feel the love, care, and intention that owners Leah and Nick pour into everything they do. From the thoughtfully curated products to the welcoming atmosphere, every detail reflects their passion for the community. Haines is incredibly lucky to have Foundroot.”

“I love this business with my whole heart! Delicious food and coffee drinks. Thoughtfully curated, responsibly sourced and beautiful items for sale. A pleasant ambience, great service, and amazing owners. Located in the Southeast AK State Fairgrounds, on the quaint boardwalk of Dalton City (the old movie set for Disney's White Fang, so you're soaking up some Haines history along with whatever yumminess you buy). Definitely check them out!”

“We LOVE Foundroot! Not only are the vibes immaculate, but the seed-to-table, scratch made food cannot be beat! I dream about their Quiche and Rhubarb Coffee Cake regularly,l. This is one of the first places we stop at for gifts AND their heirloom seeds are incredibly reliant and productive. Thanks for keeping Haines fed with a kind, inclusive, and local family owned space!”

“A happy, cozy little shop. Best coffee in town (!!) - lovely hand baked goodies and artisan / specialty home goods / gardening supplies. We’re basically here every day they’re open for our quiche and coffee. So, so thankful to have them here!”
