Gurosik's Berry Plantation

“Clearly, most of the reviewers here talking about rude behavior, prejudice, etc… don’t quite understand what it means to be a farmer. When I went there myself with another couple and their family (mind you, my friend and I are both clearly Hispanic with white husbands, and her parents also came with us). I have two boys, and she had her then baby strapped to her. The “notorious” lady everyone is talking about, spoke more as-a-matter-of-factly rather than rudely. She asked us to pick all of the berries when she noticed we were only picking the ones we wanted; HOWEVER, she explained we didn’t have to keep them, just pick them so the vines could blossom new strawberries because leaving them would kill off the bush. Clearly, most of the negative reviews left that tidbit out. Also, when we first approached the woman at the front she did mention we had to pay first, but she also asked how many buckets we needed. There was none of, “pay a bucket for every person!” Mind you, when we went was in 2020. We are a family of 4, my friend had a family of 6, and we only got 2 buckets. They got 4. It goes to show just how askew some details can become when people aren’t understanding of situations. I also purchased some flowers, because they also had a lovely flower patch on the other side. They had a lovely shop with the most delicious jams, bread, and other assorted goods that were made from their own harvest of the berries in the patch (not just strawberries). The farm is most known for its strawberries, but they also have blueberries and blackberries. Those are more susceptible to season in that area, so I would call beforehand to ask when you can come to pick those. The prices were also not bad at all. For how huge those buckets are, 7 cash is very reasonable. God asks us to treat each other with kindness, but most people are too focused on themselves these days. Needless to say, please don’t turn this farm away due to some misconception of so called racism. This may be the south, but I’ve come to learn that I have experienced more hate in California and Atlanta, GA than I have ever experienced in Augusta or South Carolina. I’ve traveled to Cali twice, and it’s gotten worse now. I just follow God’s instruction to not let that sort of thing get the better of me. However, I can earnestly say I have not experienced that when I came to this farm. As the saying goes, “What comes around, goes around.” Treat them with respect, and respect will be shown back. Even if it isn’t rewarding right away in some cases, don’t falter.”

“We had a great time at Gurosik's Berry Plantation! Everyone was so kind and helpful. They went out of their way to make it a fun and memorable morning for my grandson. The berries were divine. The best tasting berries we've ever had. The store is worth a visit too. It's definitely going to be a weekly stop for fresh produce.”

“I took my grandkids today and made the sixty five mile journey to pick strawberries. Based on all the information available from the website and their phone messages their hours were 8 a m to 7 p m. We arrived at 3 p m to pick strawberries and were informed that strawberry picking ends at 1pm. We had traveled all this way. So I thought we might go through the farmers market store. However, we then found out they only accept cash or check.No credit cards. These seem to be very important facts that should be shared in a public setting on their facebook page or on their website before people make the journey to their businessonly to be turned away.”

“I had a really disappointing experience at this strawberry patch. We came expecting a fun, family-friendly outing, but it turned into the opposite. One of the staff members yelled at my child in a way that was completely inappropriate and unnecessary. I understand that there are rules to follow, but speaking harshly to a child—especially in a public setting—is not acceptable. It was upsetting for both my child and me, and it really took away from what should have been a positive experience. Places like this advertise themselves as family-friendly, and that should include treating children with patience and respect. There are much better ways to communicate expectations without raising your voice or making a child feel uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this experience left a bad impression, and I would hesitate to return or recommend this place to other families”
