“This was a girls trip weekend but anyone would love it – honeymoon, couples getaway, etc. From the moment we arrived at Hamakua Chocolate Farm, this cacao farm stay felt like stepping into a living, breathing chocolate story—lush trees, birds in the mornings, and hosts who clearly love what they do. Dan and Berndt are the heart of the experience: inspiring, passionate, and genuinely creative in how they share the farm and the craft behind great chocolate. The accommodations were spotless, comfortable, and beautiful views. Waking up surrounded by cacao, ocean views, and tropical greenery was a one of a kind awesome experience. The Immersive farm-to-chocolate tour is WOW: The walkthrough was hands-on and easy to follow—from seeing pods on the tree and learning harvesting techniques to understanding fermentation, drying, and how flavor is built at every step. Sampling along the way (and at the end) made it WOW. Trying the unique flavor profiles is a one of a kind delicious experience. If you’re considering a cacao farm stay and/or tour, book this one. We came for the chocolate and to relax and left with a genuine appreciation for the craft, renewed, and beyond impressed. Five stars and we will be back with more friends.”

“My husband and I did the tour and we loved the farm. It’s a really beautiful space and we were both really impressed that Dan and Berndt (the owners) cared for it on their own since it’s huge! I was expecting a tour of just the cacao trees etc, but they actually let us see the entire farm and showed off some of their cool plants/trees. They also have this tree house with amazing views. I also wanted to mention that they talked about their process on the farm—how they started, how they faced several challenges and how they resolved them. I actually really respect how hard they worked and the love they put into their farm. They are two very impressive (and really sweet and funny) gentlemen. The chocolate part was also really fascinating. I knew making chocolate is a long process but I definitely appreciate it much more after learning about it in detail. It was overall a lovely day and the chocolate was spectacular! :-) Thank you Dan and Berndt!”

“I very enthusiastically leave a 5 star review and would give it more stars if I could. I really wanted to see an operating chocolate farm would give it great reviews just on that, but this tour goes far beyond that with a fabulous tropical garden that has so many interesting and beautiful flowers, trees, fruits and spices to see and experience. Have you ever seen a cinnamon or clove tree? I have…now. The chocolate tour was awesome, but the tropical garden was icing on the cake. Dan and Berndt were great tour guides and are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their creation (cacao farm and tropical garden). I HIGHLY recommend anyone in the area or across the island to make time to come see this place, totally worth the time and money.”

“Dan and Berndt were wonderful. They truly have a passion for chocolate, the land, history, and honestly anything cool! You start your tour sitting on their lanai overlooking the ocean and the cacao trees. You can feel the peace washing over you & then they give you your first taste of their chocolate 🤌🏻 While they obviously have a tour planned they were easily able to pivot and share different things and focus more on others as we asked questions or showed interest in specific things. The tour was full of laughter, learning, and tastings of fruit, spices and chocolate. Amazing! We haven’t stopped talking about it to anyone who will listen! Highly recommend.”

“We went in expecting to learn the basics in how chocolate was made and came out with a much richer experience. Started off the tour by learning about the cacao fruit and getting to taste it (which was a great experience) to then seeing the rest of their property. Their lower property was filled with amazing rare plants, tasty fruits, and a wide range of spices. We finished off the tour with the manufacturing process and trying a wide range of chocolate and cacao products. We would highly recommend this tour to most anyone.”

“We loved our time at Hamakua Chocolate Farm!! Both hosts were friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the land and all of its plants! It’s more than just chocolate, we got to try spices and fruits as well!! The grounds were extremely well kept and had all kinds of exotic plants. Treehouse was super cool. I would recommend touring with them again and would be interested in staying at their airbnb!!!”

“One of the best tours I’ve been on. Dan and Berndt were wonderful hosts. You see the full process for making chocolate. You taste a bunch of chocolate and MANY other interesting things. The full tour of their property and all the amazing tropical plants was the best. Only problem is that we ended up buying a bunch of chocolate. 😂”

“The Hamakua Chocolate Farm tour was an amazing experience. It’s like the Garden of Eden, combined with a chocolate tasting. They shared their experience of growing and producing fine chocolate. Well worth the time and money to visit!”
