Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Oregon.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“10/10 recommended one-stop-shop for all things fruit related! - They offer a wide variety of delicious fruit and fruiting trees/shrubs through their CSA and other sales outlets (name a fruit that grows in this region, chances are it's growing at the Home Orchard Education Center) - Meaningful and educational volunteer opportunities (volunteers get to take some fruit home too). - Excellent orcharding workshops - some of the best orcharding classes I've attended! - It is a beautiful, lush, and verdant third space (it is open to the public). - It hosts a wonderful and welcoming community of volunteers and fruit/orchard enthusiasts. It is my favorite place in the Portland Metro Area!”

“I volunteered with a friend at the Home Orchard Education Center this summer and was quite impressed. They have a wide variety of plants and trees and the person in charge while we were there was very knowledgeable about the plants and the procedures they follow for their research and educational programs.”

“We learn so much every time we visit. It's a home away from home. The variety of trees and changing seasons keep us coming back. The people here have always been welcoming and eager to share thier knowledge. And there's a beloved orchard dog, so sweet. We had a great time pressing cider last fall.”

“The Home Orchard Education Center is an awesome learning environment. This is a great place to get a hands on experience with taking care of plants and an orchard. Everyone is always friendly and questions are always answered. I have loved volunteering here.”

“So many great programs, so many fruit species, so much knowledge and experience from Tonia and all the staff and volunteers there. If only it weren't so far from me, but even still... A premiere site for orchard education and work/trade opportunities.”

“We thoroughly enjoyed our CSA membership. It was a fun opportunity to try so many new types of fruit. And the apple cider pressing!!!! Don’t even get me started. So delicious. We are looking forward to next year.”

“Wonderful orchard that shows how to take care of plants. They have friendly staff and hold workshops to teach people how to care for fruit bearing plants.”

“There is a great deal of information that can be gathered, but as like every home is different as is every garden. There are many things that I would do different. For example if you have a 100 year old tree that weighs 200 tons, it becomes too difficult to move twenty feet to a "better" location. If the tree is thriving in the location it was originally planted, maybe that is the best place for it.”
