Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Michigan.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Wonderful little orchard, only about 15-20mins from downtown South Bend! I’ve been here twice now, to pick tart cherries, peaches, and blueberries. All the produce has been delicious! Better still, the prices for u-pick fruit are very reasonable. The blueberries are completely organic! And the tart cherries are sprayed with pesticide, but there’s a washing station and a de-pitting machine on site! Everyone who works there has been very helpful with directions, even when the place gets busy. There are two picking areas, one near the main entrance, and another across the street. Make sure to go to the main entrance first, in order to exchange your license for a u-pick card/entrance ticket. I would recommend wearing long pants, especially if you’re going to pick in the fields across the street. It’s a wonderful and relaxing experience picking fresh fruit off the tree or bush. I have been pleasantly surprised by how few bugs there are—Lehman’s certainly keeps clean! Guarding the blueberry bushes is a big box that plays the sounds of birds of prey (which I think keeps the smaller birds from plucking all the fruit), so if you’re coming alone, you may want some headphones, haha. In any case, I completely recommend getting your next batch of fresh produce from Lehman’s!”

“My favorite orchard. Largely due to golden raspberries! They’re only there a short period of time. There are a bunch of other fruits and goods available. You can pick or buy from the store.”

“A beautiful and quaint family farm. We picked peaches today and the price was reasonable. We also picked up a bottle of local peach wine! We will be back next year for organic blueberries.”

“Beautiful spot to visit. Fine pricing. And delicious fruit. However, the orchard is not friendly for first-time guests. When I pulled in I felt unsure if I was pulling into the right spot, or if I was pulling into someone's home. The sign was blocked by daylilies and a branch. They need bigger and simpler instructions for first timers. Also, more of a welcoming first impression in the driveway would help.”

“Fruit picking is my therapy, and here is my happy place. I had the best strawberries and tart cherries ever picked up from here. The pricing could be better though.”

“I thought I could get already picked strawberries there. But it was first day of u-pick so had to pick myself. Not too many berries yet, or someone had already picked where I was trying. The berries I got were fine.”
