Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Arizona.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
  • Payment notes on file: Mastercard. Cash still helps at smaller stands.

“Our horseback riding experience was absolutely incredible from start to finish! The entire experience was so well-organized, and the staff made us feel comfortable and welcome right away. The horses were beautiful, well-cared for, and perfectly matched to each rider’s experience level. you could tell they were very loved. The scenery was breathtaking and made for such a peaceful, memorable ride. Our guide, Andrew, truly made the experience! He was so cool, funny, energetic, and incredibly knowledgeable. He kept the vibe fun the entire time while also making sure everyone felt safe and comfortable. He also took amazing photos for us, which we really appreciated, especially since this ride was part of my sister-in-law’s bachelorette celebration! This was easily one of the highlights of our trip, and we would 100% recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable experience!”

“My son and I did the sunset horseback ride at McDonald’s Ranch and it was absolutely incredible from start to finish! Even though we were part of a larger group, the staff had plenty of experienced riders with us and made everyone feel comfortable and well taken care of. The guides were personable and knowledgeable, sharing interesting information about the desert plants, the horses we were riding, and the history of the family who owns the ranch. It made the whole experience feel much more special and authentic. We try to do horseback riding adventures in almost every state we visit, and this was truly one of the best we’ve ever done. The scenery at sunset was beautiful and the entire experience was well organized and memorable. Highly recommend McDonald’s Ranch if you’re visiting Scottsdale!”

“Amazing experience here! Visiting from Canada! I have been riding my whole life however it was my Fiancé’s first time ever riding a horse and MacDonald’s Ranch is an amazing place for both beginners and advanced riders. I rode Flynn and my Fiancé rode Bob. They were both such good boys. I was incredibly impressed by the behaviour of their horses and how good and well behaved they were on the trails. You could also tell all the horses loved their jobs which is so amazing and important. We went for the sunset trail ride and it was gorgeous. We also got to see a great horned owl and her babies in their nest on a cactus (so cool!!). All the staff and guides were extremely kind and personable. If we ever find ourselves in the Scottsdale area again we will definitely be back!!!”

“I had such a wonderful experience at this ranch. The staff is very kind and knowledgeable. The grounds are very well kept and the horses are absolutely beautiful and well mannered. You can tell the horses are well taken care of and loved. I did a group sunset tour. We saw an owl, heard coyotes, saw jack rabbits, all while taking in the gorgeous scenery. This is a great date night spot or a place to bring your kids because they also have a petting zoo area. Thank you guys for everything. Can’t wait to come back and request Barney again. He was a beautiful horse to ride.”

“Such a memorable experience! We did the horseback riding and cook out. The staff was incredible. Very knowledgeable and friendly. We went with our 2 kids none of us had riding experience. There were three guides with us on trail and they made sure we were comfortable and safe. Big thanks to Kat, Mike, and Dawson! The cookout food was delicious, live music was awesome, tons of games if you choose and they had a wrangler teaching the kids how to use rope. I would recommend this place!”

“My daughter had my grandson's 2nd birthday here! What an awesome, fantastic place for child's birthday. The petting zoo, the tables, facilities, tractor ride everything from start to finish was amazing! I highly recommend this ranch. They have horseback, trail rides too. Truly a fantastic family owned ranch there is something for everyone.”

“If you are visiting or your family is visiting this is a must! My wife and I decided to do this last min and we had the best time! We did the 1 hour horse ride and it was amazing. The guide was very knowledgeable and helpful and the horses were amazing and gentle. We will be back again soon with our kids. Definitely a must!!! 5 stars”
