Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Georgia.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“We had the sweetest day at Merk Farms with our Oconee Baptist Church preschoolers! From start to finish, it was such a fun and memorable field trip. The children absolutely loved the barrel train ride—it had everyone smiling and giggling the whole time! One of the highlights was the wagon ride out to feed the cows. The excitement on their faces as they interacted with the animals was priceless and such a special experience for them. We also enjoyed picking fresh, juicy strawberries straight from the field, which was a wonderful hands-on activity the children truly loved. To top it all off, we cooled down with some delicious strawberry ice cream—such a perfect treat after a busy morning of exploring! We are so thankful for the warm hospitality and family-friendly atmosphere. It was a beautiful day filled with laughter, learning, and simple joys. Thank you to the Merk Family!”

“Great farm and strawberry experience! The owners are responsive and when in doubt- just text for weather conditions and/or strawberry availability- you’ll receive a response :) . The Facebook page is regularly updated, and there is even an adorable sign near the Mall of GA advertising this family business. The farm is organized, fair pricing, and delicious berries. The farm is becoming more popular and recommend to go to the farm early to beat the crowd and ensure plenty of berries to go around. The tractor ride was a lot of fun and fresh, delicious ice cream. Highly recommend Merk Farms! 🍓😊”

“Merk Farms is a gem of North East Georgia! The family is as hard working and honest as they come! The Merk’s know what joy it brings to families near and far to welcome them to their literal home. They care for the land with integrity and compassion. The concessions are great and the strawberries are even better! Just wait until the fall! Pumpkins are wonderful and maze is beautiful. One of my favorite places and farm families!”

“My visit to Merk Farm with the kids was absolutely delightful. The strawberries we picked were incredibly fresh and flavorful—the quality you can only get straight from the vine. I also appreciated the "Buy 4 baskets, get 1 free" offer; it was a generous touch that added to our wonderful experience. Thank you for providing such a high-quality environment and service. We look forward to returning soon.”

“We love Merk farms!! The cutest farm and nicest people. Always putting on fun events for the community. My kids enjoyed the hayride and barrel train. Not to mention the most DELICIOUS berries I've ever had!! 😋”

“The most delicious strawberries we’ve ever eaten! You have to check out this precious farm. Beautiful views, kind people and the best berries in Georgia. Highly recommend the homemade strawberry ice cream.”

“We had a wonderful time picking strawberries. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Beautiful farm and no crowds made for a wonderful trip with my boys. We will definitely be back!”

“The young teenage girl and older woman who were working outside the stand on Sunday April 18th at 3:15 ruined our day to sum it up. We Got here at 3:15, watched them send a family down to pick strawberries right before walking up to the booth. No more than 5 minutes after watching the family go down, we went up to ask for one bucket & were refused service. Multiple families were still out picking, there were at least 5 people in the field. We were Turned away Forty minutes before close. We traveled 45 minutes from Athens only to be told they were done for the day. I only wanted one bucket for my toddler and had to take her back home with her crying in the backseat. They refused the bucket saying that they “ran out of product for the day”. But if that was the case for us, why wasn’t it for the family that went down two minutes prior? We had no intentions of overfilling our bucket, we would have settled for 5 strawberries if only it meant my toddler got to partake in the experience. They didn’t seem bothered by refusing service to us either. We have been here for events before, and had a wonderful time. This place is truly something special, but to be turned away while the business is open and people were being sent down in front of us was just truly upsetting and extremely out of character for this place. I wish I could have convinced myself to buy something to make the trip worth it, but I just couldnt. Ice cream or jellies or meat or whatever else they may have had was just simply not the reason we planned our trip. If we hadn’t been refused, we would have spent money on the strawberries AND whatever extras they had at the shop. But I didn’t travel out here for just a gift shop. This definitely changed my perspective on Merk Farms. Get there early, or get out of their parking lot felt like the overall theme for closing shift. It just felt like an unwelcoming experience, which as stated before, is shocking compared to previous visits. Today’s trip made my daughter cry & left me feeling like I had let her down by bringing her. I just wanted one bucket, some memories with my mom and my daughter, and some cute pictures. I will try again, somewhere else, another day. It might have just be worth it to take a trip up to Jaemore Farms. I guarantee they wouldn’t turn away customers. Reputation, retention, and customer service are what keeps businesses open in today’s time. It just seemed like the folks there just wanted to go home. After today, I am definitely hesitant on ever coming again. I am thoroughly disappointed.”
