A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in California.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Right when we got out of my car, we were greeted by the nice staff here. They explained where to get the buckets, there was a clean bag ready for a fruit or many fruits, and they explained where to look for the best finds. It made for a great experience and the peaches and nectarines were wonderful.”

“The staff at the front/checkout were very nice. Cute little orchard. We drove out to the area for cherries at a big nearby orchard, and thought we'd grab some peaches too so stopped by here. Unfortunately, my experience was a bit marred by a staff person whose job seemed to be to prevent people from eating too much fruit without paying for it. My idea of a positive fruit-picking trip does include getting my fill of sun-ripened fruit - and I do not mind paying a premium for that experience. If I want a deal, I'll go to my local store. If I'm driving out over an hour for the glory of Brentwood fruit picking, I will gladly pay more for a good experience. I tend to taste fruit that is over-ripe or pretty blemished, not fruit that will stay good for a couple days to take home. (Something that a staff person at another orchard taught me) This staff person saw me eating a nectarine and said sternly: "It's ok to taste 1 or 2 but the rest go in your bag." Yes, ma'am, I said. I thought that was totally fine. But then during the course of our visit, multiple times she patrolled me and looked at me directly only right when I took a bite of fruit, and gave me a scowl. Not sure if the labor costs of this staff person are actually justified - there was so much overripe fruit that had fallen to the ground that I was stepping all over squished/rotting nectarines. Never greeted me in any other way, checked if I had any questions, etc. I understand that running an orchard like this and staying afloat can't be easy, and it can't feel good to feel like people are stealing from you. But, it also doesn't feel good as a customer to feel policed and unwelcome. Would suggest raising the price so that the cost of tasting can be absorbed...it may result in customers staying longer and buying more. Or can I just pay a "tasting fee" at entrance so I don't have to get scowled at? I've been to many orchards/u-pick farms and never before had this experience; in fact at the other orchard we visited that day they literally told us at arrival to taste anything we wanted. (We also stayed 3x as long and spent 3x more $...) Interestingly... afterward I asked my spouse if he had the same experience, as our family had split up for most of our picking time. He said he did not, which explains why he wasn't in a rush to leave like I was and left much happier. Who knows if there was any profiling involved or if it was just random. Glad to see others enjoy this place - I won't be coming back unfortunately.”
