Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in New Jersey.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“I found out about Ort Farms from a billboard I saw driving down 17. I wanted to find a farm that had a pumpkin patch but still had apple picking, and Ort Farms had both – so it was perfect! It was about an hour drive from me, so it wasn’t too bad. We came on the last Sunday of September, so the pumpkin patch and hayrides were already open (I believe they open mid-September) but they still had some late varieties of apples. They had some veggies available for picking too – tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. You just need to purchase a bag and you can use it for both. Admission was about $15 per adult, which you have to purchase online. Kids 3 and under are free. We did the 9:30 time slot but didn’t get there until 10, which didn’t seem to be an issue. It’s definitely best to go early so you can avoid as much of the crowd as possible. We spent almost three hours there and it was crowded by the time we left. The good thing about going in September is that most people don’t want to go until October, so you get to avoid that mess. But the bad thing is that it’s still probably really hot and if you’re picking fruits/veggies in hot weather, it’s not the most fun. By the time we were done picking apples and veggies, we were all hot and tired by the time we got to the pumpkin patch. So I’d suggest doing all of your photo ops at the pumpkin patch first and then doing all the manual labor. They have a few food trucks in one area and the apple cider slush was nice and refreshing after picking fruit. They also have a farm store with your usual suspects – pies, apple cider donuts, pre-made salads/sandwiches, etc., but we didn’t buy anything. I think I found our new go-to farm. It’s nice that you can kill two birds with one stone. I saw they have U-cut Christmas trees in December so I’m interested to see if they’re doing any Christmas events – I wouldn’t mind making the drive back.”

“Wanted to try a new spot for Apple Picking and Ort’s did not disappoint. there was ample space to park and traffic was guided by staff so it wasnt chaotic. The farm was beautiful and well maintained. Playground was in perfect condition and even looked new! the kids definitely had so much fun. We went to their orchard and it was very organized however the PYO apples seem pricey for a small bag of $8 or $12. This was a separate purchase from the admission ticket which also included the orchard entrance and their hayride. During our visit (Sept) was also an event so they had vendors and a live band which was neat! there were enough tables/chairs fyi. We also tried their homemade icecream and I absolutely enjoyed their pumpkin patch milkshake and their special caramel apple cider slushie float which included an apple cider donut! it was so good! they also sell apple cider donuts and other homemade breads and pastries inside their well kempt shop! sure enough we had a lovely visit at their farm and would love to revisit again some day soon!”

“We had a wonderful experience at Ort Farms! It’s such a fun place for apple picking — there are multiple apple varieties to choose from, and each section is clearly labeled with notes on flavor and best uses (like baking, pies, or fresh eating). The taste notes were a really nice touch! In addition to apples, they also offer picking for tomatoes, peppers, cherry tomatoes, and eggplants. We visited during pumpkin season, and pumpkin picking was also available — perfect for the fall vibe. The food options were great, with plenty of choices like fries, chips, slow-cooked rib sandwiches, pizza, and refreshing lemonade. Their Oktoberfest beer was especially tasty! There’s plenty of parking and lots of seating areas for when you grab your food. We also enjoyed live music during our visit — families spread out picnic blankets, relaxed, and listened to the performance while kids played nearby. The whole place had such a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend for a fun and relaxing day outdoors!”

“Ort Farms just keeps getting better! We absolutely love the new improvements, especially the massive playground, which has been a huge hit with our family. Their ice cream selection is incredible, and they even have my favorite soft serve! We're so fortunate to have such a special place so close to home. People travel from miles away to visit, and it's easy to see why. From the friendly staff and adorable animals to the fresh, homemade apple cider donuts, every visit is a wonderful experience. I'm especially excited to see what they have planned for adults with their live music and summer events. They've also started Mommy & Me classes, and our child has already enjoyed two school field trips there. Ort Farms has truly become a community treasure, and we always look forward to our next visit.”

“We came for the Boo Bash festival and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Although there were quite a few people there, it was well run and laid back. The ice cream and cider donuts are top notch here, and the farm store has a great selection of products. Incredibly scenic valley setting and a great place to enjoy the fall foliage. Lots of things to do for kiddos including free playground areas and petting zoo. Hayrides to the pumpkin patch, monster truck rides, tractor train rides for kiddos. The list goes on!”

“Has a wonderful time at their pyo strawberry and brew festival! The strawberries were so sweet we didn't need to buy ice cream after! Food trucks were a little expensive so we brought food.”

“Great farm very very big!! Wasn’t expecting it to be this big. They offer multiple parking lots looks like they could fit 10,000 cars it’s really big lol. However, even though it’s so big everyone is super friendly, which makes a very big difference whether it’s the people checking you in or the people at the cashier or the ones selling things everyone greeted us with a smile!! They offered different farm activities such as hayride, They have some animals to feed, different playground area To play. There was apple picking and pumpkin picking. As well as some other activities for additional cost. Got the ice cream and I highly recommend it. It was delicious.!! Today was a very busy day at the farm, so the lines were long, but everyone worked their best to make them move quickly! On my way out I really wanted the apple cider donuts. They smell sooo delicious But the line for them was pretty long and I had an over 2 Hour Dr. home so I had to pass on them But just from the smell, I recommend them :)”

“I really enjoyed my time here! I love that their are so many food vendors, but I dislike how quickly the food sells out. There were no candy apples or caramel apples left by 12:30pm est. There is lots to do for kids. I highly recommend taking the pumpkin patch hay ride because it is a long walk. 9/10 recommend.”
