What visitors say

181 reviews on file · showing 8 visitor notes from the listing data.

“Tour the two historic homes of famous Parker Ranch, but by reservations only. Tour the last home and the first home of the Parker family. The original homestead is made entirely out of koa wood and there is nothing like it anywhere in the world. These were working ranch homes, nothing really fancy, but there are some surprises. The koa home is just amazing. You'll also see the carriage house, maybe some wild turkeys and horses too. Plenty of parking. This is a chance to better understand the history of the family dynasty that has shaped the Big Island for the past 150 years.”

“We took the self guided tour here. It takes about an hour and takes you through a lot of the important events of the ranch and island. Make sure you make reservations, but its a fairly cheap short attraction you can squeeze in to your day. If you're not into history there is a lot of reading and not a ton of artifacts etc so I could see how some people may not find it as interesting if its not what they're into.”

“People are friendly but unfortunately I stopped in on a closed day. Check hours. It looks cool and probably worth checking out for you history buffs. The fact the rangers were so nice even though I was there on an off day and did not know it tells me all I need to know.”

“This historical place was wonderful to experience in person. Mana Hale -all koa interior was amazingly gorgeous! The Magnolia trees on property were stunning and the staff were friendly and informative .”

“Had a great time learning about the history of the Parker Ranch. Incredible to learn about one of the oldest ranches in Hawaii. The home is grand and beautiful, many items intact from the early 1900s”

“Great place that showcases the Parker family. Lots of great pictures and artifacts. Great place for history buffs. You must have an online registration and appointment to tour the facility. It is an hour long (est) self guided tour. All 1st start in the main house with a brief introduction and video. Then all is left to wander the place.”

“This was a neat historical stop. The old house was impressive with all the koa wood and historical pictures and artifacts. I enjoy history and this appealed to me. The drive through the area is pleasant and is a good prelude to stopping at the Parker ranch mall with some good food and shopping options.”

“3 stars for a museum historical site is ok. Not a lot of things but great history of the paniolas, Hawaiian cowboys from Spain. The woodwork in the adjacent building is 5 star.”
