Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Illinois.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Review Date: October 8th, 2014 Partridge Point Orchard is on point! Talk about a hidden gem. While expanding my local travels, I stumbled upon Partridge Point Orchard… not in the traditional sense. I was browsing Google Maps for recreational areas to visit and came across this place. I asked a few friends who are from the area and they never even heard about it. So as I usually do, I scrounge up at least one friend and we head on our there. What a day it was. The weather was perfect. Not too hot, not too cold. A gentle breeze. Isolated from the majority of the populace. Parking is a bit limited, but this is a small, family run business, so it’s to be expected. We were greeted by a lovely lady who told us that we have free reign to walk around and we can pick all the apples we want. They had your standard varieties with one or two I never heard of before. The land that the Orchard is on is serene. There was a small pond we stopped at and just took nature in. My kind of peace. Any who, we ended up grabbing one apple a piece and when we went to pay, they said we could just keep them as it was just two and it was a drop in the bucket. I still paid them a $1 for them (I think their rates were $0.54 a piece) as a compromise. Overall, a really great place if you want to visit an actual orchard versus a tourist-y one such as Tanners Orchard. Well deserving of a 5/5 in my books… err blog!”

“This place was epic. The staff/owner is super sweet and accommodating. If you are looking for a place to pick apples (and get fabulous hunny) without all the excess distractions or abundance of people, THIS is your place. I highly recommend this place for our super special littles that just want to explore and experience and for guardians that wish to allow that, while erroring on the side of individual cautions. :) (There is a pond with fish that you can feed, but you can also avoid it if needed.)”

“A lovely experience at the orchard, even though the trees were thoroughly picked over. We enjoyed walking the orchard, talking to the owners, the kids through acorns into the pond, and just enjoyed the overall experience. So glad to find a u-pick orchard that isn't over commercialized and full of people. We will be back next year.”

“We came to visit this orchard because they use IPM for pest control. There were still a good amount to choose from even this late in the season. We came late in the day after work and they were still happy to accommodate us. The farm is quiet and charming and we even got a helper to pick the apples!”

“Super fun place. Picked some golden delicious, fuji's and small honey crisp (which were to die for). Kids fed the fish. Got some honey from bees that are at the orchard. The owners are super nice and love what they do. Overall well worth the trip from Blono. Thanks Partridge Family.”

“Great small local family orchard. Pick your own kinda place.. Small orchard so get there early, especially since this year was a little tough on the crop. Support local and check them out, we'll be back for sure!”

“I will go back again. They have golden delicious, Empire, Jonathan, Gala, honey crisp and Jona gold apples. Locale honey. The property is very well maintained. Trees looked great and were easy to harvest from.”

“This is a great place to take your family for a wonderful U-pick apple experience that doesn't take a whole lot of time and apples are low cost-currently only $1 a pound! They have several varieties of dwarf apples including Honey Crisp, Jonathon, Red Delicious, and Fuji. Family has been in the orchard business for over 30 years and allows you to sample the apples before you buy. After purchasing, staff will give kids a small tin of food to throw in the pond to feed the catfish. Lots of fun!”
