“From the moment we stepped onto the farm at Rustic Roots Sanctuary, we felt an overwhelming sense of peace. It truly is a hidden gem. Truly a little slice of heaven tucked away in Spanish Lake. The atmosphere was calm, restorative, and inviting. The people at Rustic Roots were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Each one was eager to share their passion and purpose. As we toured the sanctuary, we were amazed by the intentional care given to every inch of the land, from the animals and bees to the pond, vibrant herb garden, rain garden, and the thoughtfully cultivated medicine garden complete with su dial. One of the most inspiring aspects of Rustic Roots is their commitment to food justice. They offer garden plots for neighbors to grow their own food and run a food program that brings fresh, healthy produce to an area lacking adequate grocery access. It’s clear that this farm is more than just a beautiful space. It’s a community lifeline rooted in sustainability, wellness, and equity. If you’re looking for a place to reconnect with nature, community, or find a new love for yoga in a yurt, Rustic Roots Sanctuary is a must-visit.”

“Sometimes, if you slow down enough, you’ll even find yourself sharing the gardens with butterflies, songbirds, and the simple joy of watching nature unfold one moment at a time. Rustic Roots Sanctuary is one of the most serene farmers markets and wellness spaces I’ve experienced in the St. Louis area. Beyond the fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and locally made products, you’ll discover something even more meaningful—a peaceful environment that invites you to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with nature. As you wander the grounds, you’ll find beautiful gardens, quiet places to meditate, and even a magical unicorn that brings smiles to children and adults alike. Every visit feels like a gentle reminder that wellness isn’t only about what we eat—it’s also about what we experience. Whether you’re coming for the market, a wellness event, or simply to enjoy the beauty of the land, Rustic Roots Sanctuary is a place that nourishes both the body and the soul. I always leave feeling lighter than when I arrived.”

“I visited the Spanish Lake Farmers Market today to buy fresh vegetables with my young daughters, and unfortunately, I left feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. While we were shopping, my 5-year-old daughter sneezed. As I was correcting her and teaching her to cover her mouth when she sneezes, the owner loudly said, “Oh my God, she sneezed all over the vegetables,” in a tone that felt very judgmental and disgusted. It was humiliating. Children are still learning proper etiquette, and I was actively addressing the situation. What made the experience even more upsetting was that another customer came over afterward to comfort me because they also felt the owner’s response was unnecessary. I completely understand the importance of food safety, but there’s a respectful way to handle situations involving families with young children. Considering how many shoppers handle produce every day, a little grace and kindness would have gone a long way. Sadly, because of how my family was treated, I won’t be returning.”
