A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Washington.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.

“When there because it was largely advertised as a strawberry FESTIVAL. A STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL!!! A FESTIVAL!!! Got there and what do I see! A damned dirt parking lot next to the damned dirt parking lot is a hut where you can pick up a damned basket one got pick your own damned dirt covered strawberries out of a small field where the damned weeds are taller that you! Once you’ve picked your damned dirt covered strawberries and gotten a good coat of dust all over your shoes and hocks you make your way back to the damned hit to get weighed and get your billfold lightened. Then you head back to your car and get the hell out of that damned dirt lot. Cause there was NOTHING ELSE TO DO!! This was NOT a FESTIVAL!!! I don’t mind picking my own produce and having to wash the hell out of it before I eat it but damn! It was advertised as a FESTIVAL I expected to at least see a food vendor or two! Heck. I never even stopped. Just drove in and right back out.”
