“My girlfriend and I were looking for a local pumpkin patch and found Blacks Farm online. They allowed dogs which was a plus and despite a few negative reviews on Google we decided to check it out. When we arrived we were immediately greeted by multiple friendly staff. They had hay rides, pumpkin picking, a petting zoo, a kids play area, and fresh quash and vegetables for sale (and a few other exhibits we didn’t get a chance to see). The place was not over crowded like some of the super commercialized pumpkin farms that we’ve been to in the past. It’s a cool quaint little place with a family vibe and a great fall atmosphere. We had a great experience at Blacks Farm and did not encounter any of the issues brought up by other Google reviewers. Perhaps things have changed!”

“It started out I almost wasn't going to go with my boyfriend cuz I thought he was just going to his friends place to pick onions to get going on our Salsa. But hmm I went. BEST BEST decision of the day. Not only did I get to meet a couple of real down to earth good people, turns out they own Black Heritage Farm. Which I didn't know until we got there and from the second we turned into the driveway til we left was an adventure everywhere. So glad I did decide to go. Just all around made my day”

“This is the second year my family and I have gone to Black's for a fun tour and pumpkin choosing. Everyone is very friendly and it is clear they love their animals. It is always a great feeling to help support a family operated organization as apposed to some intrusive corporate company. Would recommend for any couple/family looking to have a fun time! Thanks and see you next year!”

“Take the time to enjoy the sounds of children finding their special pumpkin or touching an animal for the first time. You might even try it yourself! Whether you go by yourself, take your children, grandchildren or someone else's children, your day will be better for going to visit Black's Farm!”

“Center Grove Orchard is obviously well known but this place is growing each year. Cheaper entry fee, animals to pet and feed, Good prices pumpkins, very friendly staff. Much smaller in size but they keep coming back and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Go!!”

“There's not really much to do. One of the horses had a horribly matted tail, and the donkey had burs all over. The animals aren't unfriendly, but don't expect them to approach you. It's fairly empty, and it feels oddly disjoint. It doesn't feel like something you'd pay for; it's just a normal farm with some decorations and a tractor ride. I wouldn't recommend going here for entertainment, but they do sell pumpkins, corn, and squash.”

“We went to this pumpkin patch to try out a new place with my family. I left feeling really sad and angry because of the state the animals were in. The pony had burs tangled into her tail up to her dock. She also had them matted in her mane. I do acknowledge that it's fall and burs happen, however this amount of burs and tangles happen with weeks or months of neglect. She also had an immense amount of bot fly eggs all over her legs. Her hooves were severely overgrown, to the point of severe concern. There was no water available for these poor animals, who were stuck in the round pen seemingly all day. A report was made with Story county animal services however, when checked out everything was "fine." I understand that legal action cannot be taken when the law has certain standards for livestock. However, be cautious when you spend your money at Black's Heritage Farm.”

“Some of the worst corn I have ever purchased fresh in Iowa. Paid $10 in Iowa for 13 ears (purchased in the Menards parking lot, Ames) and the ears are small, deformed and many never developed kernels per ear. This stand in Menards parking lot should be closed; a very bad experience on Menards property, a definite rip-off.”
