Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Illinois.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

What visitors say

“Great place. Pick your own fruits and vegetables. We just picked about 20 pounds of apples for baking and eating. Had a few while we were picking. Juicy and crisp. Nice little store where they sell their own fresh baked items (donuts, pies, etc.); all done from scratch. Prices are reasonable, a little more per pound than the grocery store but far better flavor. Family owned and operated. Not too large or crowded on a Friday afternoon. Owner and employees are very friendly and personable. Oh, one more thing. The apple cider donuts are really good!”

“Love this place. They have amazing pumpkins. They are so friendly, Free place for kids to play, this year they have a mini maze for the kids to play in, petting area. Delicious apple cider slushy. Apple donuts and a small bakery on site. They have 6 different types of apples to pick. In late summer that have different potatoes. This a great family owned place. Definitely worth checking out.”

“My family and I had a great time! We picked tomatoes, peppers, and apples and there was a great variety! We also visited all of the animals there. The kids loved seeing them up close. We also bought apple cider slushies! They were so good. We also took home some apple butter and BBQ sauce from their store. Their customer service was fantastic and we were so happy with our experience here.”

“Such a fun, country place with a great play yard for kids; nice, country store where you can buy apples (or go pick your own), apple-y goods, pumpkins or other treats, a café, and lots of animals to look at! The staff were all very nice, and best of all it's free to get into and do everything! You only pay for the apples or other goods you take home with you!”

“We visited twice on field trips and had a wonderful time. The kids always have plenty to do and the animals and playground keep them occupied. They offer a wide variety of produce and the apple cider donuts were some of the best things I've ever tasted. Smaller than Eckert's down the road, but nicer family feel.”

“Very nice orchard to visit . The complimentary tracker ride takes you to the orchard. They have some small farm animals and a playground for the kiddos. You can purchase pumpkins, gourds and apples inside the open air barn shop. No charge for the ride to the apples. Thank you for a pleasant visit.”

“Braeutigam Orchards is such a charming spot for fresh fruit and vegetables in season. It’s family-friendly, peaceful, and everything you pick tastes so much better than the grocery store. Love supporting a local farm like this — it’s a yearly tradition for us now.”

“Went on a class trip, farmer Dan was awesome. Got to see animals and pick delicious apples! They have amazing apple cider and donuts.”
