Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Illinois.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Great experience at Eckert's for Mother's Day. It was a way for my mother-in-law (89 years young) to enjoy a little bit of outdoor pseudo gardening, since she doesn't have a garden of her own to work in anymore. I think she had lots of fun and enjoyed the wagon ride to the field as well. It's a very well-run operation overall and amazing that this is the 8th generation to run the family business. As a small business owner myself, having grown up nearby enjoying Eckert's in the 60s and with my own kids in the 80s, I say "Kudos to the Eckert family!" Job well done.”

“Love picking fresh produce! Been here for peaches, blackberries, apples, pumpkins and each time have been impressed by the crops, service and staff, as well as vast offerings of farm to table goods which is awesome. The atmosphere is very much farm vibes and the fields seem well kept. The store is very clean and they are well organized. Even better, they are dog friendly so it’s always on the table to bring the pup. It’s a little drive from the St. Louis area but overall very much worth it! Will obviously be back :)”

“Had a great time at the Tulip Festival, beautiful set up with plent of photo opportunities. Best advise is to come early, people are nicer and there are fewer screamimg kids, drunks, and maybe you will miss the girls that are wearing barly nothing with their bits hanging out. There was no waiting for the wagon ride when i arrived and the line was moving quickly. By the time I came back there was a line all the way down to the restautant.”

“Spending Mother’s Day at Eckert’s and having a great time! The cider is excellent, the atmosphere is relaxing, and all the flowers around the property look amazing this time of year. It’s a perfect place to walk around, enjoy the scenery, grab a drink, and spend quality time with family. Definitely one of the better seasonal spots to visit when the weather is nice.”

“Strawberries are ready to be picked. Our family loves coming to Eckerts throughout the year for the different produce. Family experience that you can repeat every year. Still lots of fresh strawberries to pick.”

“We loved going to the Tulip Patch this year, so many beautiful colors and lots of photo ops too! The Cider Shed was a refreshing stop, and dinner afterwards had a little something for everyone!”

“Visited several times over the years usually to pick apples. Recently went to the tulip festival and was pretty disappointed. The price is about $20 to see a pretty small tract if land with different tulip plantings. Very underwhelming. I have been to the flower fields near San Diego and this was not even close. Before going out to the tulips, there is a market, a donut shop, a cider bar, and restaurant on the grounds. They also had some music. This is a fun atmosphere but it was pretty crowded and there are not nearly enough restrooms on the grounds. The ciders were pretty good. For apples, it a pretty good experience over the years. For the tulips, not so much.”

“I'm torn on this review. On one hand, the farm is huge and well organized and they have great fruits. It can be a fun family outing. Tractor ride to the fields are easy a d frequent and the staff are friendly and helpful. The market is also great. I want to give the place 4 or 5 stars. But for goodness sake... the pricing is just flat stupid. We paid basically double to pick berries tha. What we would have paid for very nice ones at the grocery store. Why? Because they charge per person to access the field and the by weight for what you actually pick. No family pricing available.”
