Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Vermont.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Champlain Orchard is absolutely fantastic! From the moment you arrive, it’s clear this is more than just an orchard—it’s a full experience. The store is filled with local goods like apple butter, fresh fruit, jellies, jams, and more. The café is cozy and delicious, serving finger foods, soups with bread, pies, and of course, their famous donuts. Behind the store, there’s a wonderful outdoor hangout space with picnic tables, a beautiful sunflower garden, and even a playground for the kids—such a thoughtful touch for families. Their cider flights are excellent, and the staff is super helpful in guiding you to flavors you’ll love. Pick-your-own is also top-notch here. They provide a clear map showing where different fruits are located and what’s in season. You can even drive right up near the orchard rows, making it easy for families. The sheer number of apple trees is incredible, and once you’re up in the orchard, the views of the countryside are breathtaking. Champlain Orchard is the perfect place to spend an afternoon—relaxing, fun, and absolutely delicious. A must-visit!”

“This orchard is awesome, staff is very friendly, and has a lot of variety. They seem to have many more options this late in October than other orchards I called. The apples, maple walnuts, apple pies, and cider donuts are all delicious. I usually toss the side crust when I eat pie, but their crust is amazing! Easily the best pie crust I've ever had. We are excited to go back in the summer for all their other fruits. It was worth the 2 hour drive we made and we will definitely be back! (Pic of pie is once we got home and added some of the maple walnuts we bought there and ice cream)”

“I have a soft spot for Champlain Orchards! The fresh white currants reminded me of my grandfather’s garden—such a treat when in season. Their selection of local beers are great, the meat is organic and grass-fed, and the maple syrup is sweet and rich. It’s just a short hop from Mount Independence, where you can take a nice hike with stunning views of Lake Champlain. We’ll definitely be back!”

“This Orchard is amazing! 🍎 The variety of apples is plentiful, and all we picked were delicious! We won a peck of apples, which is how we found this orchard. We enjoyed flights of hard cider and some cider donuts and grabbed a few 4 packs of hard cider to go. This will be our go-to for years to come & I would highly recommend a visit!”

“Over the Xmas holiday was visiting family in Vermont and came across your hard cider. I picked up your Mac/Maple and loved it. I got back to Arizona and ordered from your site. Mac/Maple, Farmstead & Ginger Pear all are great. Will be a regular customer.”

“Great experience picking apples from the orchard. They have plums, raspberries, and peaches as well. Great staff. Amazing food, with a live band. Best way to spend your day with nature.”

“Inspired to stop after trying their cider at a cafe in Vergennes! Original is delicious and available for sale in 4 packs. Other artisan goods for sale as well. Friendly staff!”

“A favorite local drive for us on sunny days in the convertible. We love the cider tasting flights, the charcuterie and the views.”
