Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Massachusetts.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

What visitors say

“Really old school fruit farm that's not trying to be big (even though they have the best selection in the valley). What I mean is the parking is rustic, the fruit fields feel natural, the barn is low-key. The staff are farm workers and proud of their products. This farm proudly exclaims that "hate has no place here" and I love them for it. Something else I love them for? Their ambrosia apples and their non-heat pasteurized (they use UV light), best I've ever tasted Apple Cider. The coolest thing to me is the cider blend changes week to week as they harvest and sort the apples. So authentic, so welcoming, so affordable, SO GOOD!”

“If variety, friendliness, and expertise is important to you, and you find yourself in Western Mass' Pioneer Valley, you should make it a point to stop by Clarkdale Fruit Farms. From their late summer peaches, to their variety of pears, and a ridiculous selection of apples - including a variety of heirlooms - you won't be disappointed. They also have both pear and apple cider, which includes an amazing vintage cider. And if you need a description of any apple in the place, someone will be there to help. I can't say enough about these people, and their produce.”

“You will never find better apples anywhere. There is a wide variety of apples. The staff members are friendly and are good at suggesting types of apples. Lots of samples to try. The apple juice is amazing.”

“I Love Clarkdales! They helped me decide which apples would make the best pies and which squash was the best tasting!! Always friendly and the quality of fruits/vegetables is the best!!”

“A great family business with wide variety of apples and other fruit. Love their "pie mix" options that let you be a mix of apples that enhances the finished product. Nice folks.”

“This place is very charming and the staff were extremely kind. They were eager to help and the ambrosia apples and apple cider I got from here tasted sweet, crispy, and savory!”

“Ben clark and his family have something pretty special going on in the hills. Outstanding fruit and outstanding service. The pear cider is beyond words.”

“Disappointed. Site posted hours are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.. posted also is closed Monday thru Thursday. Say them advertised on local news. Me and a friend were going to drive almost an hour to get there today which is Saturday, July 11 th. Decided to call before we left. Message says closed ( Saturday 10 am July 11) and will reopen on Monday July 13. You need to co-ordinate your communications better.”
