Dane County Farmers' Market

“A Saturday morning without the Farmers' Market feeds like waste (unless I'm travelling, heading out early for adventure). Go early. It gets crowded after 8:30 and stroller-jams can gum up things. The market reflects seasonality, so keep on top of what's in season. Fresh local strawberries can be found from mid-June to early July, and they are especially delicious. Think strawberry shortcake without having to add sugar to the berries. I welcome the annual cycle that's generally not reflected in standard grocery stores. You can go with friends and try to figure out the best cheese curds offered by a large of cheese vendors. If you want to start out your morning with something sweet, there a number of bakeries, some using organic sources.”

“Visiting the Dane County Farmers Market is something I have done ever since I was a little girl and it is a must if you have never experienced it! Seeing all the different vendors and everything is such an awesome time! Getting to know and having conversations about what vendors bring to the table is a beautiful experience to have and connection to the community is priceless! Warning, it does get crowded so if crowds are not your thing, maybe it's not such a good idea for you. If you are willing to be patient and kind to others it can be a really good time for all! You may hear "Ope, Sorry" a bunch, it's the Midwestern kindness of apologizing if you may bump into one another!”

“The Dane County Farmers Market is one of the markets that are so amazing in all the states. The beautiful location on the Capitol and the amazing amount of vendors and music and events going on is awesome. I love going there and even though I don't live in Wisconsin anymore I try to go back at least two or three times just to get a chance to go to the market. Don't forget to stop at Stella's and get your hot and spicy cheese bread!!”

“Madison highlight for sure, make sure to check it out if you’re around on Saturdays. My first time it was quite the experience because everyone was walking around so slowly, but now it’s endearing and part of the experience. I’ve been in May and June several times and the rhubarb is abundant with all the pastries and pies. Lots of fresh rebar too and asparagus.”

“Very fun! A must-do of Madison. You can go to the State Capitol it is open and people like to view it when visiting the farmers market. Still Bakery is a town favorite! Get excited for many produce and snack/condiments, my favorite has been the pesto stand with many different flavors.”

“Great market But it gets incredibly busy. You can't walk through all the people and I'm left feeling like I can't stop and look at booths cause I'm holding up walking traffic. Booths need to be open front and back and streets blocked off so we're not shoulder to shoulder. The vendor options are outstanding.”

“Would be nice to see food trucks vs just same things everyone selling. Flowers, carrots, lettuce, cheese, snap peas etc. where’s the food trucks? This place was suppose to be the biggest and best, but Cedar Rapids downtown in Iowa has you beat. If you want just your normal veggies restocked for home, Dane County farmers market is fine, but don’t come hungry for food to eat there. Only breads available mainly of donuts.”
