“This was one of the largest farmers markets that we have ever seen, and incredibly, there were actually farmers at this farmers market. We’ve learned that at many farmers markets, the food is purchased wholesale and sold at the market. But at this farmers market, there were actually farm families selling the produce and meat products that they had actually grown and produced themselves. There was an array of products for sale, from Iowa T-shirts to special spices and sauces, as well as food, jewelry, with magicians and balloon, blowers, entertaining children. We had fun.”
“I love the Des Moines Downtown Farmers Market. I go every Saturday that I am able to, whether I plan on buying something or not. I have enjoyed getting a freshly made Sourdough every week, have found some delicious honey that reminds me of the Fynbos honey I get back home, as well as some lovely baked goods, fresh vegetables and there are always beautiful flowers to see to. Very sad this is ending soon, I believe it runs till the end of October and then closes for Winter.”
“Showed up planning to walk around for twenty minutes and stayed almost two hours. Lots of local vendors, baked goods, coffee, fresh produce, and people everywhere. It gets crowded fast and you'll spend some time weaving through the crowd, but that's part of the experience. Good energy, plenty to look at, and always seems like something is happening.”
“Be sure to wear good footwear. You will be walking a good deal. Lots of great vendors with great choices and a large variety of product types. Definitely something for everyone. Most vendors take some form of payment other than cash, though cash is appreciated. Local parking garage charges $5 for the market. We'll worth the cost.”
