What you can pick
In October, check what’s currently ripe before you go. Seasons below are typical windows for Montana, not a guarantee for this exact farm.
Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Montana.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“I've been to Ellers a few times now, and each time it's been a wonderful experience. I suggest you go when the temperature is cool because it can get hot during midday. Also take water for drinking. If it's your first time picking berries the empty bucket(s) look dauntingly empty, but it really doesn't take long to fill one. Plus, you can eat as many berries as you like while you're picking. This latest trip I had a helper in the form of a cat who followed my every step...it really wasn't much help but it liked to nap on my stooped over back as I picked the berries.”
