“A Sweet Adventure at Hanai Hive I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Hanai Hive on the beautiful north shore of Oahu, and it was nothing short of an inspiring educational experience. Hosted by the wonderful Katie Metzger, the tour was both informative and engaging, providing a deep dive into the fascinating world of beekeeping. Katie's passion for her craft shone through her thoughtful explanations and demonstrations. She emphasized the importance of supporting local beekeepers, not just for the sustainability of our environment but also for the community's health and economy. Her hard work ethic is palpable; she embodies the dedication that is necessary to maintain an apiary. The experience was truly educational, shedding light on the critical role bees play in our ecosystem. Katie shared inspiring stories about her journey in beekeeping, illustrating how these little creatures can have a massive impact on our world. What stood out most was the emphasis on participation and hands-on learning. We didn't just watch; we engaged with the bees, gaining practical insights into the art of beekeeping. It's clear that this adventure is not only about bees but also about fostering a sense of community and connection to nature. In summary, my visit to Hanai Hive was a delightful and enriching experience. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in understanding the importance of beekeeping and supporting local agriculture. Katie's gracious hospitality and wealth of knowledge made this adventure truly unforgettable. I might bee considering this hobby for my backyard garden in Colorado.”

“Knowing we wanted to visit a bee farm, we chose this farm not really knowing the differences of the few tours available here on Oahu. We were pleasantly surprised with the layout of the property at the owner's residence and its history, the abundance of fruit trees, the knowledge of the beekeepers, and the products available by Hanai Hives. We were given a very personal tour, including hands-on as we were dressed in our suits, every question we had was thoughtfully answered and we enjoyed a delicious sampling of the honey produced on location, to include original, Roselle, Cinnamon, Hawaiian Pepper and lavendar along with a tray of cheese, toast, and apples. Although competitively priced, I feel the cost was slightly high....BUT you are not touring with a group of strangers either. I would still recommend friends and family who are visiting the island to make the trip out to Hanai Hives. I intend to visit again to take advantage of their U-pick fruit! The farm offers soursop, calamansi, avocados, and bananas, just to name a few! Loved it!”

“Katie and her team were absolutely amazing during our tour today. We had a pretty big group including a toddler and they were so accommodating. Even though our toddler got tired and a little cranky they continued to be sweet and encouraging for her and didn’t make us feel bad. The tour was so informative and yet fun too. Katie is truly passionate about her beekeeping and she has clearly passed that passion on to those who help her. She took pictures of everyone in our group and shared them with us at the end when we sat down to enjoy some of the honey with a beautiful charcuterie board and some ice cold water at no extra charge. This is an activity that seems pricey on the surface until you experience it. It was worth every penny!! Thank you Katie for an amazing experience!!”

“This was honestly one of the best experiences from our trip to Oahu. My husband and I booked this experience on a whim, we’ve talked about getting into beekeeping and had been looking for an introduction so when we found it we instantly decided to book it. Katie was beyond amazing and exceeded everything we could hope for. The tours are private so she customizes everything to your level of experience and interest. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of her stunning property and the wealth of knowledge she passed down to us. Being able to see the hives and bees in their habitat was so magical and the honey tasting was absolutely delicious. I cannot recommend Katie and her apiary enough, this is something we will rave about for years.”

“We visited Hanai Farms with our 5 kids (ages 11-3) had a BLAST! You can tell Katie cares deeply for her bees and we learned so much about bees and bee care. The kids really really loved it! You also get to try their different honey varieties at the end which was super tasty. My favorite was the honey and Hawaiian chili peppers flavor.. sweet and spicy deliciousness! Katie also takes pictures and videos the entire time and airdropped them to me which was great because most of our adventures it's like I wasn't even there. An adventure we will cherish for a long time!”

“I've watch bee videos on YouTube for years and only today did I muster the courage to hold live bees in my hands. It was exciting and mesmerizing watchng the bees work. I was given an amazing tour of the apiary and vast amounts of amazing fruits growing there. You can see the bees contributional impact to the are. My favorite part was I lnpecting the bee hive and sitting peacefully on a picnic table surrounded by beautiful fruit trees and flowers while enjoying a snack with natural honey. This is the stuff I dream anout!”
