Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Washington.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“This was my first time here, and I had nothing to complain about. The only minus is there were many nettles along the path thus making it very painful to pick strawberries. The parking is spacious and the price is reasonable compared to stores' prices. My friends and I had a great time together picking and selecting the best berries for us. They love the farm and want to be back in the near future. Keep up the good work”

“Great place for picking, so interesting. So sweet strawberries and raspberries. Good experience u-pick for kids. Nice farm with easy access and parking. Good quality and fun. Going here has become our summer tradition. Quick weighing and payment, good service.”

“Harvold family run and owned fields have delicious berries and they are good neighbors, very active in the community which makes Carnation a great place to live! Their sunflowers are the bomb in August!”

“Came for strawberry UPICK and The strawberries are wonderful, sweet and soft, that was the best part of the trip. Less fun stuff: * blackberries and thistles made picking / walking around difficult * we came ~10am on the 3rd day of the fields opening and it took like 1.5 hours for 4 of us to get 10lbs of strawberries. wish each plant had more strawberries, I’ve been to other UPICK that have more berries per plant, and could get 1.5/2x the amount in the same time * it was pretty difficult to find truly ripe, deep red berries. we got a good mix of pretty ripe and some still slightly white berries cos we were trying very hard to make the 3lb minimum lol. tips: bring a hat, long pants, and come EARLY overall it was an ok experience with yummy berries but I’d personally go to the other UPick farms I’ve been to just personal preference”

“The strawberries tasted very good and sweet. Since it was late in the season, there were not many strawberries left, and we had to look carefully to find them. The field also had quite a lot of weeds, so picking took more effort. The signs were not very clear either, so it was a little hard to find the right place. Overall, the strawberries were delicious, but the farm could use clearer signage and better field maintenance.”

“Please, for the love of god, mark your entrance better! The berry picking here is great, but the entrance is incredibly poorly marked. Normally, this would not be an issue but you need to go nearly 30 miles out of your way to turn around because it’s all farmland. Very obnoxious.”

“We got here at 9am it’s raining and cold today so scared many folks away….. after an hour we managed 3lbs of berries between two people! We searched high and low to at least get 5lbs. Not possible. Apparently they were picked out by 8:30am which is silly. But makes sense with the condition of the field. I have been coming here for the past 10 years and every year the fields look worse and worse. I understand on their responses that they can’t keep up with maintaining the fields due to being a small team etc but this year was very poor. Almost surprised they are open to be honest. Today, we tried many rows to get a flimsy 3lbs picked. Also my kiddo mentioned how yummy the berries were, and the lady working sternly told her, “you better not eat those until you pay for them. 😬” I grew up picking berries and even worked on a few farms…. telling a child to not eat before she pays for a raspberry is low. Anyways here are some photos of the field. Be your own judge.”

“We checked the schedule before coming, and it clearly showed that the farm was open. We drove a long way with our small child specifically to pick berries, but when we arrived, we were told they were closed. There was absolutely no notice anywhere about the closure, and it seems they do not keep the information up to date. To make things even more frustrating, there were still people inside picking berries, but we were not allowed to enter. We arrived at 11.15. There were still 45 minutes left before the posted closing time, which would have been more than enough for us to let our child pick some berries. The woman who turned us away was unfriendly and rude. The atmosphere was not welcoming at all, especially for families with children. We left feeling very disappointed and frustrated. I strongly do not recommend this place because of the poor customer service and the negative attitude of the staff.”
