Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Iowa.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“I love coming here to shop and pick out my pumpkins! They have amazing candles, great beanies and crewnecks, awesome little figurines, and so many pumpkins! Today I got a candle and oh man it smells so good!! I also found out today they have dried flowers upstairs in the shop barn- how cute and cool!! If you’re just coming to shop you don’t need to purchase admission. But I have taken kids here before and have paid and it’s so worth it! So many cute animals and fun things to do! Love making special trips every fall! Don’t forget to say hello to the cute sheep when you leave! They loved head scratches today! :) Thanks again”

“We went with friends to cuddle the goats and had such a great day. The farm is so much fun with tons for kids to do. The goats were adorable and so sweet. They have a corn pool, an amazing huge playground and tractor bikes too. I loved holding the goats with my son! We will definitely head back to this farm to cuddle the goats again and also visit during pumpkin/fall. I recommend this to everyone!”

“We LOVE this place so much!! All year round, too! My boys love it. We go there in the fall for the pumpkin patch experience but also go in the summertime to cuddle with baby goats and play (they have so much for kids to do). A new experience this year, we go on Mother's Day to play with baby goats and have wine slushies. Highly recommend this place to anyone in the area. Very family friendly.”

“I highly recommend anyone to visit. It’s out in the country so it’s beautiful and peaceful. You can visit and pet the baby goats and we also pet and interacted with the baby cow. There’s lots of other activities for kids. They have a greenhouse area for plants and flowers. They also have a shop so you can get cold beverages and many other things. Try it and you will not be disappointed.”

“Howells Tree Farm and Greenhouse puts on an awesome Egg Palooza for Easter! We took our grandkids and had such a fun time. From baby goat cuddling to a stress-free egg hunt and the corn pool—there was something for everyone. Well organized, family-friendly, and just a great way to celebrate the holiday. Highly recommend!”

“Howells' is a FANTASTIC example of where to go for a family-friendly & fun time! I grew up on a farm in NE Iowa, and I loved seeing how they re-purposed the bins, the corn crib, & other sheds. My 4 year old niece & 8 year old nephew loved all the options & playground area. The zip line was a bonus! Highly recommend!”

“I took my grand kids ages 7,5,4 and 2. They had the best time. They wanted to take the goats home and the corn bin is always a hit! The woman at the ticket window was so great. She was so kind, patient, and accommodating. Thanks so much Howell's Farm for providing this activity.”

“Honestly really disappointed, spent like $70 to go to their chaos free egg hunt. Prize was said to be worth $4. My daughter got a candy kabobs as a prize and my 2 toddlers got a small cheap bunny stuffed animal. There's no way each item was $4. Could go to the $ tree and get better prizes. In past years I feel they would give little baggies with a couple prizes. We love the chaos free egg hunt concept but need better prizes especially for the price you pay...yes you can do their other activities after but still”
