Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in North Carolina.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“To be clear, it is possible to have a lot of fun on a strawberry patch for 1.5+ hours with little kids. 1. The patch is in several rows throughout an open area with plenty of room for other pickers. If it rained the day before, bring boots as there may be a few small puddles and you won’t want the kiddos trampling strawberries trying to get around them. 2. The strawberries are SWEET and JUICY. We chose to pick ones that were ALL RED (not even a tip of white) and couldn’t have asked for a better more flavorful experience. 3. Kids in our group were ages 4-7 years old. There are simple rules that are easy to follow and the farmers will call you out if you aren’t following them lol (they did so in a sweet and reasonable manner). I appreciated this as it made the picking experience enjoyable for everyone and I also want their crops to remain in tact for when we come back! :) 4. I believe they only accept cash and check (no card) but their pricing system was more than fair and they even sold small cakes the day we came. 5. I can’t express enough how kind, charming, and generous the people were. My son wants to come back just to talk to the elderly gentleman again.”

“We took our family (kids included!) out to Hunts Strawberry Farm this weekend for some u-pick fun, and it was an absolute highlight of our weekend. Located right off Watkins Rd in northeast Raleigh, it’s super convenient from Wake Forest and Raleigh– just a quick drive. The rows were neat, clean, and loaded with the juiciest, sweetest strawberries we’ve ever tasted. No need for extra sugar at home – they were perfect for eating fresh, making smoothies, or turning into jam. The kids loved running through the patches and filling up our gallon buckets (bring exact change or Venmo – easy!). The staff/owners were so friendly and welcoming, making it feel like a true family farm experience rather than a crowded tourist spot. It’s a simple, wholesome outing that creates great memories. Highly recommend for anyone wanting fresh local berries. We’ll definitely be back next season – thank you, Hunts Strawberry Farm!”

“Awesome place. There is no shade so be careful on a hot day. The strawberries are sweet. But you have to use elbow grease and dig deeper to find the bigger sweeter ones. I worked hard to find the best ones.”
