Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Massachusetts.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.

What visitors say

“My husband and I had a great time at Ioka Valley Farm. The tour of the sugarhouse and learning about the process of making maple syrup was interesting and educational, we had a lot of fun taste-testing the products, and enjoyed a delightful brunch at the Calf-A. Great place for families, kids, and the average adventurer looking to learn about maple syrup and try some of the best! Would highly recommend a visit to anyone in the area looking for a fun (and delicious!) way to spend an hour or so. All of the staff were very friendly and made me and my service dog feel welcome, especially Margie, thank you! (Please note, NO PETS allowed.)”

“What a treasure! Our family looks forward to maple sugaring season at Ioka every year. We have brought many out of town guests to come and experience the process of making maple syrup. Ioka makes it fun and engaging for people of every age to learn and taste the maple syrup. They also offer breakfast on Saturday and Sunday during sugaring season. The owners and staff are all kind and friendly. The breakfast is delicious and the maple products are top notch. Oh and I forgot! They have a little petting/feeding area with llamas and goats and chickens. Don’t forget quarters for the food.”

“Our bus tour stopped there for lunch based on maple syrup dishes, apple butter and condiments produced on this farm. A family worker gave me a personal tour of the maple works factory. The pulled pork with a maple syrup based sauce was delicious. This is a nice place for a family visit and to teach children about American farm business. They also have livestock, pigs and cattle, and sell the frozen meat. Really worth a visit & located in the scenic Berkshires.”

“What a gorgeous wholesome farm! Came from NJ, found this place on a whim and loved it! Everyone was so friendly! The prices compared to our local farms were night and day. Super affordable. Would’ve been a 200.00 day easily in NJ at a farm. We had such a great time. Thank you!”

“We LOVE going to Ioka every fall for our pumpkins. The people are soo wonderful and kind. My son is now 14 and we both have a blast every year. Not only that, but you HAVE to visit their sugar house. Maple cream and butter are very good.”

“You can see how they make maple syrup, get free samples and eat pancakes, etc at reasonable prices. Even had a few animals. Children loved it but also fun without children”

“Friendly, low-key, inexpensive farm adventure that is great for young kids. The 6- and 3-yr-old that I was with absolutely loved it.”

“Do not go there. We cut two trees — one big and one tiny, maybe a foot and a half. The price isn’t by the foot but per tree, and they insisted there are signs about it… which must be very well hidden, because we never saw a single one. The owner refused to give us any discount, even for the miniature tree. So much for the happy, jolly, merry holiday spirit, huh? This is just bad business. We drove around afterward, and there are absolutely no signs.”
