What you can pick

In October, check what’s currently ripe before you go. Seasons below are typical windows for Texas, not a guarantee for this exact farm.

Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Texas.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
  • Payment notes on file: Mastercard. Cash still helps at smaller stands.

“Moss Springs Blackberry Farm is a tradition! My Grandmother picked thornless blackberries for canning here long before it became a business. The rows are so neat and clean you can wear your Sunday best dress with rubber boots to pick. I take my camera! I take my umbrella! It is a wonderful place to go and enjoy the farm experience. "I like to be there at 7a sharp to start picking!"  You will have buckets of berries in no time. I bring my cooler with an ice pack for transporting home, because I surely don't want anything to happen to these beautiful fruits. "Call for appointment" if you JUST WANT TO PICKUP AND LEAVE with your, blackberries, blueberries or peaches "call in your intentions and order" -a week in advance-, leave your name address and telephone number. Follow up before arriving. Your pick up order will be ready by 8-8:30a.  Bring the family. Kid friendly, no bathrooms, but stores are not far from the orchard off Hwy 8. Owners: Bryon Eric & Belinda Lum”

“My daughter and I traveled to New Boston to pick blackberries. We use to pick blackberries years ago when my children were little and had a blast. The people at Moss Springs were very friendly and well organized in their business. The berry patch was beautiful and plentiful even though it was at the end of the season because of cold weather, lots of rain and now a heat wave. They were very informative about their next year's schedule of what they were going to grow and sell if the weather permitting. Their prices were good and berries were big with a good taste. I did make a blackberry sauce to pour over hot buttermilk biscuits or pound cake. It was fantastic. The berries were naturally sweet. Didn't have to use a lot of sugar. We have an appointment for next spring to pick blackberries and blueberries. She also told u of a place to get good strawberries. We enjoyed our visit.”
