A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Nebraska.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Payment notes on file: American Express, Discover, Mastercard, VISA. Cash still helps at smaller stands.

“🌷🌻 Nelson Farms in Valley, NE – A Year-Round Farm Experience Worth the Drive from Omaha & Lincoln If you’re searching for things to do near Omaha or family-friendly attractions in eastern Nebraska, Nelson Produce Farm should be at the top of your list. What makes this place special is that it’s not just a one-time stop—there’s something happening here almost every month. Here’s what a full season at Nelson Farms looks like: 🌷 April – Tulip Festival A beautiful way to kick off spring. The tulips are planted in creative designs like butterflies and hummingbirds, making it feel like a mix of a flower festival and outdoor art exhibit. Even in a cooler spring, it’s still a peaceful, colorful experience that’s perfect for families and photos. 🍓🍉 June & July – Strawberry and Watermelon Festivals This is when the farm really comes alive. Fresh-picked fruit, summer energy, and hands-on experiences make this one of the best U-pick farm experiences in Nebraska. It’s interactive, fun for kids, and gives you that true farm-to-table connection. 🌻 Mid-August to Early September – Sunflower Festival (Don’t Miss Sunrise) This is hands-down one of the most stunning things I’ve experienced in Nebraska. I went at dawn, and watching fields of sunflowers follow the rising sun is something you don’t forget. If you’re into photography or just want a quiet, breathtaking morning—this is worth planning your trip around. 🚜 September – Trucks & Tractors Event A great add-on to the fall season, especially for families. It adds another layer of variety and keeps the farm experience fresh and engaging. 🎃 October – Pumpkin Patch & Halloween Festivities Classic fall vibes done right. Pumpkins, seasonal activities, and that crisp Nebraska autumn atmosphere make this a perfect weekend outing. 🛍️ November – End-of-Season Clearance Event This is one of their hidden gems. You get to sample and explore everything they produce in-house—salsa, breads, pumpkin bars, syrups, Bloody Mary mix, pickles, jams, and more. It’s the best way to truly appreciate the quality and scale of their local products. ⸻ Why I keep coming back: • It truly feels like a “farm from a dream”—something is always happening • One of the best seasonal attractions near Omaha, Valley, and even worth the drive from Lincoln • Perfect for families, date days, and weekend trips • A full agritourism experience with U-pick, festivals, and local food • Every visit offers something new—you never feel like you’ve “already been there” I’ve brought family multiple times, and every single person has been impressed. That says a lot. If you’re planning your Nebraska adventures, don’t just visit once—plan your year around Nelson Farms. ❤️ If this helped you, give it a like!”

“We took my mom here for her 70th birthday. This place is cool. If you like small family owned. I mean, it’s not small but it’s not either and I honestly like there’s not 1 million things to do. We took our time, didn’t rush and just enjoyed the tulips and animals and corn. When we were leaving the nicest woman checked me out and left such a great “walking out the door” feeling. We will be back for sure!”

“Great way to spend a beautiful day. Parking was very organized and not a far walk. Ticket and entry process could have been better, as their QR code scanner wasn't working, so they had to look up everyone's name on a laptop. Flowers were beautiful and the prices in the market were reasonable..”

“We have been going to Nelson’s for over 5 years now. My family has loved every experience. From the tulips to sunflowers and pumpkin patch. Beautiful location with a wonderful store. The food is always good as well.”

“The tulips were absolutely beautiful. Lots of different colors and varieties all in a small amount of space to see them easily. They have 2 fields just for looking and then a u-pick field. Tulips are $3 a stem with some deals if you picked more. There were also climbing and play structures for kids, a corn pit, and the quonset with goats, sheep, donkeys, llamas, horses, mini ponies, and chickens. There are benches and swings scattered throughout the fields, as well as cute spots for pictures. They have food, drinks, and a market with tons of local products. The parking lot was a bit of a mucky mess after all of our rain this weekend, but they were out trying to smooth it. It felt a bit pricey as someone who wouldn’t enjoy many of the things for kids, and several of their food spots weren’t open at this time of year. Despite that, I definitely do not regret going, just wouldn’t go multiple times a season. I’ll likely be back in the future for other events.”
