Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in New York.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Yes you can buy apples, or pick apples, they are great people and there are other treats to buy, but this is about the apple fritters. They are not the donut shop fritter with apple pie filling mixed in the batter and heavy glaze. They are basically a thick slice of apple dipped in batter, deep fried until crispy, rolled in sugar and served warm. A little expensive? Maybe but after the first one you will go back and get more. (The first ones you will eat there or in the car, thinking you are going to leave but can’t pass up that warm fritter). They are also great at room temperature and allegedly warmed up in an air fryer, but don’t last long enough to try them that way.”

“This was a lovely place to stop for some apple goodies. It was a little rainy and we didn't quite have the correct footwear for potentially muddy walking so we passed on the u-pick but it did look to be good picking. The staff was also very friendly and had samples of the different apples on offer; we really enjoyed the firecracker. We were also able to pick up miscellaneous farm store delights like cheese curds, cider, pumpkin bread, and a lovely new pie plate. The highlight of course was the fresh hot apple fritters, which went well with a hot cider. The cider doughnut was also good.”

“Early season this year !! We missed the rain, but we found great apples !! Honey Crisps. Up the hill. Always good to see Keith and Pat!! BBQ smoker not running yet, but hopefully next weekend. Fritters as big as my hand!! Love fresh cider. Apple Walnut Crumb cake, oh and a couple of hot dogs this year !! Skip the big monster up the hill and enjoy the great conversation, great food and you pick !!!”

“Really nice u-pick orchard on Rte 20. Walk up behind the store front to pick apples. Good variety. Had Gala, Cortland, Empire, Crimson Crisp (yummy), and a few others. About a dollar a pound. Store had the kinds of goods you'd expect: apple stuff, baked goods, jellies, honey, so on. Fried apple fritters and donuts for sale. Fritters were good. For lunch, pulled pork and brisket. Very low key and fun.”

“Such a sweet spot for apple picking! O’Neill’s Orchard on Rt 20 was exactly what our kids were hoping for — relaxed, family-friendly, and full of small-town fall charm. No big crowds, just locals enjoying the season in Upstate NY. Delicious baked goods, great apples, and an overall wonderful, down-to-earth experience. 🍎🍂”

“It turns out to be our favorite place. I am writing today, because I used the last apples for muffins. After months in the fridge they are still in good condition. The Rhode Island Greens are perfect for baking. See you soon - Thanks.”

“Super cute non commercial farm stand. Get all the apples, apple pie, fritters, donuts and more goodies without the long lines and crazy parking. Pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn and more. Everything a fall lover must have!”

“Perfect, small well stocked orchard. Got to see a hundred plus year old apple tree.”
