“We visited Persimmon Hill Berry Farm this time on an overcast day in mid-June. Late enough in the season where there were plenty of juicy, ripe blueberries to pick, and still a tremendous amount of young, ripening berries still on the plants. Parking is open in rows across a dirt/grass lot, with plenty of room. Beside the parking area, there are 7 or so picnic tables under cool shade if you want to bring lunch or buy a delicious treat to enjoy, or just rest. Once you're ready, you start with an empty plastic pail with a clear plastic bag inside. There are several long rows in each of the various fields of berries, and staff direct you to where ideal picking spots are, but you are welcome to explore. It's not hard to find dark blueberries to waiting to be picked. It's a peaceful experience as you're away from a lot of traffic and noise, aside from the random vehicle rolling down the gravel road. Because the blueberry stems are small, pickers have to use a little gentleness to get the dark blues and leave behind the unripe berries (reddish or light green) so they can ripen. The air is refreshing and it is a good family activity, inviting time to think and talk about health and food we eat, the work we do, God's creativity in nature, and time without technology. Searching for the darkest berries and admiring all the sizes and colors is a treat. It's fun to compare what you find and take care to not knock unripe ones off before they can mature for future pickers. When you're done, return your bucket and staff weigh the fruit you picked inside the building. Prices are higher than grocery stores, but the taste is incomparable! Persimmon Hill's berries are sweet, tender, fresh, and as long as you avoid the reddish berries, your dark blues are going to amaze your tastebuds. Also inside is a bakery and small cafe' are goodies including huge berry cinnamon rolls that could satisfy four people, also fruit scones, blueberry smoothies and shakes, and the widely-known 'Thunder muffins'. There's a large window where visitors can watch the bakers create these delights. Thunder muffins are full of blueberries and have a slightly crunchy layer of sugar sprinkled on top. I read about the Cumulobluebus which is a Thunder muffin topped with ice cream and whip, if you're in for a real taste treasure. There are milkshakes, lemonades, and fresh coffee to drink. We brought sun-hats and water bottles, and enjoyed a small picnic at the shaded tables before we left. Restrooms are clean and air-conditioned, found around the outside of the restaurant building, just down a few stairs. There are also a few rows of blackberry and gooseberry bushes if you like. Inside the restaurant are shelves of preserves and jams in a variety of delicious flavors. Another rejuvenating visit to Persimmon Hill Farm. You're sure to enjoy it too.”

“We've always greatly enjoyed our trips to Persimmon Hill. We would always stop by after picking up the kids from summer camp, since the early 2000s, to enjoy those delicious thunder muffins! We recently stopped in to grab a couple muffins and get a box of blueberries. I highly recommend trying all the things and especially the blueberry cinnamon rolls. They are amazing! 😍”

“So much fun!! What a beautiful farm and the blueberries 🫐 are delicious 😋 we're headed back for their largest variety ripe for picking. Looks like early-mid June is the sweet spot and we'll be coming back next year! They also have blackberries & shitake mushrooms. Grab a bucket and start pickin', you'll be addicted too 😁”

“Bakery- The best blueberry muffins I’ve ever had!! Scones were equally impressive. If you get there and they’re out of items, wait 15 minutes and supply becomes available. Coffee is very good. Berry picking was going to start soon. The fields looked well maintained and easily accessible.”

“Great place for berry picking with a whole family. Great breakfast place to.”
