Pitcher Mountain, Blueberry Picking

“**WARNING*** PLEASE be careful and check for ticks! Ticks are ENDEMIC in the north-east. Any time you venture into long grass, you should be aware of the possibility of ticks. After visiting these areas, be sure to do a thorough tick check on yourself, your children, and your fur-babies too! The most effective solution to repel ticks is to apply Permethrin on your clothing and DEET on your skin. According to Wikipedia: "Permethrin is a medication and an insecticide.As a medication, it is used to treat scabies and lice. It is applied to the skin as a cream or lotion. As an insecticide, it can be sprayed onto outer clothing or mosquito nets to kill the insects that touch them" Alternatively, wear long pants with white socks and pants tucked into your socks for easy visibility! Be safe and enjoy your time outside! According to Google: "Blueberry picking season in New Hampshire is typically from mid-July to the end of August, with peak season in late July and early August. However, the season can vary depending on conditions, so it's best to check for the latest fruit conditions online. Blueberries are ready to pick when they have completely changed color from green to blue or purplish-blue, and ideally have no hints of pink or green."”

“You can't beah the price. The path to the berries is a bit steep. A lot of high bush blueberries around. Even more of a deep black colored berry on bushes that looked like the blueberry, but were excessively hard and crunchy. I've not been able to identify what they were. The picking is s lot more slow going that what you find on commercial farms.”

“Blueberries have a donation box in the parking lot and can be found all over the mountain. The mountain also offers good views and nice walking trails. There's ample spots for photos and for good berries. Remember to pay the fee to pick!”
