What you can pick

In August, check what’s currently ripe before you go. Seasons below are typical windows for Minnesota, not a guarantee for this exact farm.

Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Minnesota.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“What a great experience to pick strawberries with our little kids here! It’s so peaceful and zen. The strawberries are red and delicious in taste and smell. We appreciate the ride to our assigned row, a flushing toilet & running water, a sandbox for the kids. The family & their service are wonderful. The location is farther out from the Twin Cities, but the peaceful therapeutic experience is worth it. This farm is also open longer with more available and better quality strawberries than farms closer to the Twin Cities. Their price is lower too. We’ll go here again.”

“We had another Mommy and daughter day out. It was my daughter's first time picking berries and for me I hadn't done it in awhile.... probably since I was her age. I would highly recommend Rod's Berry Farm. Very friendly staff and helpful. They gave us hints for picking, took us out to the field, and picked us up. Which is super nice and helpful, especially when you choose one of the hottest days in June to pick strawberries 🍓 We picked 12 lbs, and pricing was reasonable..... plus the strawberry 🍓 were super yummy”

“Strawberry picking season is practically a holiday for me, especially given the nostalgia. Growing up, we went picking every summer with my Granny (who would go practically everyday for two weeks straight herself!). Anyway, Rod's Berry Farm is a gem. The berries are always plentiful and so yummy. 🍓 But the people and the low-key, down-to-earth energy is what brings me back with my kids every year. They are so welcoming to children being a part of it all! And the tractor rides are a bonus. ✨”

“We had a really great time picking strawberries at Rod’s Berry Farm on their first day of opening this season! My 3 year old wants to come again and again. There were so many bright red strawberries that smell and taste so good! They also have a sand pit so the kiddos were playing there for a bit. They also have a well-maintained bathroom by the parking area instead of a porta-potty. We will definitely be coming here again!”

“Lovely experience! Wonderful blueberries and strawberries, have been here multiple times with no problems. Small reminder to sunscreen up, wear sunglasses and a hat! I highly recommend bringing a cooler with cold drinks as it's a very sunny place.”
