What you can pick

In October, check what’s currently ripe before you go. Seasons below are typical windows for Michigan, not a guarantee for this exact farm.

Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Michigan.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“ROYAL FARMS has a terrific selection of nutritious delicious freshly prepared food and beverages. You can choose ready To-Go, or order and sit down while enjoying the beautiful farmstand setting. You'll discover abundant seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables. And lots of fun throughout the place, inside & out! Thanks to DETOUR from recent rain affecting some roadways, my travels took me directly to ROYAL FARMS before heading to my destination over the river and through the woods. My stop here was extra special to my heart - It was so pleasant having a quick chat catching up with Sara. And seeing her son Ryan working here, and Sheryl manning the register. I'm fortunate to have formed friendships - and farming memories - with their families throughout the past 50some years!”

“Update: forgot we picked up a couple of traditional pasties. Finally had them and they were also delicious. Filling was like a good meatloaf and the pastry wrap was so flaky. Again, wished I’d picked up a couple more. I picked up some cherry jam at another place and it was just okay. I feel like I really missed out by not getting some from Royal Farms while we were there. Based on our other purchases I bet it would have been better! Traveling thru and made an on-the-fly stop. Got a slice of cherry crumb pie. Staff was fun and super friendly and helpful. The young lady upstairs in the wine/cider tasting room was so great. Got some Hard Red cider to go. Edit: just finished the slice. DELICIOUS! Should have bought a whole pie. 😏”

“Lots going on in this humble roadside mom&pop, but let’s just address the baked goods. It’s so great that corporate store-bought pies are so shitty; because when you find real Midwest bakers who won’t sell you anything they wouldn’t bake for their family, it tastes that much more glorious. Every recipe and its execution here sings the praises of our Lord and Savior.”

“One night I really wanted a cherry pie on my way home from Boyne City. I pulled up and they were already closed. I was getting back in my truck and a woman said to me what do you need? I said I needed a pie but you are closed. She said register is still open and come on in. Great customer service and the pie was the best I have ever had! I highly recommend!”

“This is a fabulous stop if you are looking for great food, awesome cider, and kind people! They have an orchard where you can puck your own fruit if you have time. Also, there's a tasting room. Highly recommend. Cute items available for purchase and the pastries are delightful.”

“really good slushie and pastie great atmosphere. beautiful setting. we bought a loaf of sour dough bread that was amazing. great place to stop. lunch overlooking the vineyard and lake Michigan with Sutton's Bay as a back drop. Amazing”

“Delicious apples , cherries, breads, candies, and cookies. Michigan grows amazing soles and cherries. Stop in for gifts, treats, and delicious food.”

“Cute place! Has some really nice to go bakery items. Beautiful location. Has wine and hard cider tasting. Was a bit pricier than other wineries that I have been to. Worth a quick stop.”
