What you can pick
In October, check what’s currently ripe before you go. Seasons below are typical windows for Illinois, not a guarantee for this exact farm.
Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Illinois.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“We had a wonderful time strawberry picking with our family! The farm was well organized, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. One thing we really appreciated was that they allowed visitors to enjoy food they brought from home, even though there were food stalls on-site. The food we tried was delicious—the French fries were perfectly crispy, the sweet corn was fresh and flavorful, and the ice cream shop had a great selection of delicious flavors. The staff members were especially kind, patient, and helpful. Overall, it was a fantastic family outing, and we made some wonderful memories. I would definitely recommend visiting this farm with family. It's a must-visit!”

“We visited Stade’s Farm & Market on Monday, October 13th, 2025, enjoying the extra day off. It was so much fun! There is so much to do here! A cool corn maze, plenty of fun tractors to sit on, trampolines, petting zoos, etc. A fresh market of course with Apple cider donuts (family favorite) and we got some pumpkins too. It was my first time but the people I was with have been here several times and showed me around. Not a whole lot to comment on, overall, just good! (Written 10-23-25)”

“Top tier for picking your favorite yummies! Clean, fresh, and plenty of attractions. Plenty of parking and room to move about. Prices are great, also. Would most definitely visit again!”

“One of my happy places! Have been taking kids since 2017! Check for the items in season and availability but even if some are slim picking there is always something for everyone!”

“We had a blast! So much to do here! My favorite place to go with family. You can spend the entire day here and not get bored for just $20 per person. Also amazing fresh, warm apple cider donuts! Phone died, could not take more pics, sorry, but trust me, sooooo much to do! You will not regret going!”

“Had a nice day and farm is well run to monetize whatever they have on offer. My biggest issue was I spent $30 on a box of self harvest veggies and everything in the field was overripe or over picked. I came home to find out zucchini and squash were too overripe to use. Tomatoes look good but hard as a rock. Had to really search for broccoli crowns. Cabbage was rotten. Soybeans were dead. If the season is over, tell your customers, don’t charge them $30 and them let them find out when they get home. The apples were good though and it is September. I should’ve known not to bother with veggies but they really shouldn’t have offered self harvest. Otherwise we had a great time. Cost was $80 (apples and veggies), $43 (lunch), $25 (in the market for jam and bbq rub, plus a few ears of corn). **update, the broccoli was full of caterpillars and inedible. There were just too many to pick out. It was one of the few vegetables we were able to harvest. The zucchini and squash were overripe and unusable.”

“I visited Strawberry form on Sunday with my camera bag because I am a photographer. I picked some strawberries and beans and was checking out after my visit. While I was checking out, a woman staff member came to me and asked to check my bag. I cooperated politely and opened my bag without any issue. I even showed her some of the photos I had taken there. But after that, I noticed many other people leaving with their bags, and no one else was checked. Only my bag was checked. This made me feel very uncomfortable, unfairly treated, and singled out. I don’t know why I was the only person selected for a bag check. Was it because of the way I looked? Was I being judged or profiled? I honestly don’t know, but it made me feel like I was being treated as suspicious without any reason. I respect rules and I have no problem with security checks. But if bag checks are part of the policy, they should be done for everyone equally — not only for one person. This experience was very disappointing and hurtful. I hope the management takes this seriously and makes sure every visitor is treated with the same respect and fairness.”

“We had a disappointing experience during our visit. One lady on the staff was very rude. We purchased a vegetable picking box, and our understanding was that as long as everything fit in the box, it was allowed. As we were picking vegetables, she walked by and told us that cabbages had to be weighed and paid for separately. After that, she kept watching us and even waited near the exit. When we were leaving, she stopped us and asked us to pay extra. What made this especially frustrating was that we saw many other customers leaving with boxes filled above the top without being stopped or charged anything extra. It felt like the rule was only being enforced on us. If your policy is that the box must be completely flat on top, or that vegetables sticking out require an additional charge, that should be clearly explained before customers begin picking. We would have happily followed the rules if they had been communicated in advance. The inconsistent enforcement and the rude attitude made us feel singled out and left us with a very negative impression of what should have been an enjoyable family outing.”
