Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Pennsylvania.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Payment notes on file: American Express, Discover, Mastercard, VISA. Cash still helps at smaller stands.

“A little pricy but that is worth it! The tasty fresh sweet juicy tomatoes just for me for tomato sandwiches like my grama made for me. Plump raw sweet and tender crunchy green beans that I at 1/2 quart on the way home. Sweet juicy peaches that the juice drips down your chin. Big zucchini for my salads, zucchini bread and fried zucchini in the air fryer. HUGE cantaloupe that sliced like butter and tasted, well let's just say it lasted 1 day after I cut it up. All kinds of local honey in different kinds. I got the wild berry honey. Good for this winter when I get that tickle in my throat. The also have baked goods, decorated cookies, raw milk, homoginized milk and goats 🐐 milk. Cider is in the cooler. Apples galore so many kinds, onions, potatoes, green peppers, watermelon, canned items and many more goodies. Ill be back there. I missed my fruit/vegetable stands when I moved down here. I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH SWOPE'S FARM. Thank you to grama there that answered my email after she got done visiting her grandkids! She made me want to visit the farmers market there. “Fall is the perfect time of year for apples and where else than find the freshest grown apples at Brown's orchard and cider company. Apples are sold in 3 different sizes and you can mix and match according to the price of the apples. They carry all that you would find in the grocery store and then some unique ones you wouldn't find here. Once you are called by the salesman he will bag your apples for you. Can't decide and want to sample? They will let you eat one whole apple here. Whether it is for baking or snacking you are sure to find something to meet your needs. A chalkboard tells you whether they are in or out of season. Besides apples they sell 3 types of applesauce, apple butter, apple b-bcue sauce, apple cider vinegar, apple pie, and their own cider. I got to sample a Jonagold and couldn't put it down. The cider is good too. They also sell honey here. Fall is the peak season for this business and they have weekend hours in the winter. Definitely worth the drive out for some of the freshest apples you've ever tasted!”

“Was looking for heirloom apples. This place is amazing. I got many varieties of apples & cider. You can see whats available online or via social media. They have a dog area which my little dog loved. everyone was nice. I ate 3 apples in the car on the way home.”

“Great place to pick up some delicious jams, fresh picked apples and other local farm staples. Good prices and good service.”

“Highly recommend! I purchase all my apples, berries, soaps, milk, honey and desserts here. Service is exceptional.”

“I very much enjoy having this farm market in our area. The incorporation of other items makes it especially nice (pickles, cheeses & meats etc.). My only complaint...Why is their a gratuity screen when checking out? This shouldn't even be an option. Am I supposed to tip someone now for checking out my 3 items?”

“Yes they have more offerings than Brown’s did, which is great in theory, however I recently purchased some baked goods that upon arriving home I discovered to be spoiled! I also purchased a jar of jam, and asked the owner if they make the jam there themselves. She said yes, but when I looked at the label it says, “made for Swope’s farm” which means they do not make it themselves. Why lie about it? I was going to buy the jam regardless and I was simply curious and making conversation, but knowing that I was looked in the face and straight up lied to leaves a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended) and is enough for me to not purchase anything there but apples going forward. There are no other orchards with some of the heirloom and rare varieties that they have so I will go for those in the fall, but I will be giving their other products a miss after this. I had to throw away the two fruit pies that I bought because they were spoiled and shouldn’t have been sold. The labels on the pies clearly said they needed to be refrigerated to maintain freshness, but these pies were just left out on the shelves for what must have been days for them to end up in the state that they were in. One of them the berries were actually fermented, that’s how long it had been left out and at too warm of a temperature. If they care about health and safety standards they really need to store the prepared foods properly.”

“Similar to Donna J’s experience.. not what Browns was🙁.. states “whole sales”.. however after receiving 10 bushels.. and having communicated I would do so.. ended up with a bill that was extraordinary.! There was no bulk pricing included… they offered excuses, as with service; seems they are not interested in having good relationships with folks..(not you JR thank u !! You’r a great guy. Always loved working with you over the past years.. ) However recently; even after getting 10 bushel.. I was told no free samples.. gulp!!! Yep Swallow that down!! 🤢.. So I showed the woman the few that I had saved from the five bushel I picked up week before.. that had some bad spots (no big deal to me, to be expected) but for her so to be short with me and say no free samples…!! I also told her she could take those out of what I am getting..: so they won’t be for free.. All in all; I’ve already found a new supplier that is pleasant to work with… the experience is worth more than to product sometimes… in this case it’s not worth it.. I even called next day and spoke with same Rep.. and they said at end of conversation.. “best of luck”. Really.. ?? ? .. For Honey check Bedillions Honey Farm…nice Folk!! And product!!”
