Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Illinois.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“We had a great time visiting. The staff was all super nice and very helpful. We picked delicious apples, with lots of varieties to choose from (the only low point was the size of the bag you got to fill). The little restaurant was good and we loved the apple cider donuts and just plain apple cider. The basket and gift shop was also nice, with great pies (apple and pumpkin for the season). We finished with the longer of two corn mazes and a quick look at the animals.”

“We came because my fiancé needed to see a cow like her life depended on it. We ended up getting there a little late right before closing, but this wonderfully nice lady named Tammy was able to make it happen. They were all very nice and made the experience awesome. Overall, we had a great time petting the cows, feeding the animals, and eating wonderful donuts. I would totally recommend”

“Awesome experience and . . . THE BEST apple cider donuts (crispy on the outside, soft on the inside) and pumpkin bars!! Lots of fun activities. Plenty to do and kids love it here. We'll kept grounds. Pick your own apples or buy them already bagged. Come back often.”

“Took the kids here last week and they definitely had a great time! We spent about 4 hours just exploring and enjoying everything. The apple picking was their favorite part 🍎🤍 It was such a fun and wholesome day. Definitely worth the trip!”

“I thought Jonamac was pricey(and I was right), but this place makes them look like a dollar store. The staff is very friendly, helpful and professional, always eager to assist when asked. U PICK was picked pretty clean. It was supplemented with "pre-picked" bins at the beginning of the rows of trees. A good time was had by our family although probably not worth the weekend/holiday pricing. I would recommend the weekdays for cost savings. While not all the attractions would be available, there is still plenty of activities on this expansive facility.”

“I recently went to this farm for this first time and it was a very disappointing experience. I purchased my tickets online in advance, for apple picking for myself, my husband, and our 3 children. We have young ones who still use a stroller. When we arrived, we had to wait for a while in line just to pick up our apple picking bags. They were sold out of 1/2 peck bags and the 1/4 bags were extremely small (like could hold maybe 4 apples...) and tore very easily. Then we had to get in a VERY long line to wait to take a "hayride" over to the orchard. The orchard was not far and could have been walked to but we weren't allowed. We arrived right at open and still had to wait a lot but the biggest issue was that strollers weren't allowed! Of course I understand no stroller on the hayride (I mean Stade's farm allowed it for strawberry picking this summer) but we had NO idea this would be the experience. If we'd not brought a grandparent along to help with our 3 children, we literally could not have done this and safely held all 3 kids in our arms while riding. Finally, after all of this and the line JUST to pick apples, we arrived. Just to find that every single apple had fallen from the trees. The ground was covered in rotten apples and the very few remaining that were high up and required pickers, were also rotten with black spots. My 3 children didn't to actually pick ANY apples, after we made the 40 minute drive to the farm, waited in TWO lines, contained them on the hayride over, just to walk next to a bunch of trees. The staff was kind when I asked to trade out my empty bags for the apples in the store since our afternoon plan was to make pie BUT the whole point of going was the apple picking experience for my kids. I can pick up a bag of apples at the grocery store for a lot less money and effort. The food was very overpriced and we opted to just leave in the end, as it was just a disappointing time overall. If there aren't apples left to pick, the farm needed to advertise that and say that "u-pick" was closed for the season. I cannot imagine most other farms keeping their tickets open for it. It's awful business practice and I would normally never write a negative review of a small business but this was frankly ridiculous and a rip-off. We went with other friends as well and it was a sorely disappointing day for all.”

“2 years ago that place was ok, it was fun, and they have normal (1/2) bags to pick apples, but now they tried to SCAM people with small size bags 1/4 for the same price…. Don’t make any sense.. you only can fit there 4 apples, it’s a total scam.. Also that employee, that showed on the picture is very rude, and not professional.. She is total Karen..Can’t stand her.. That 1 star review is for her..”
