Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Illinois.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
- Payment notes on file: Mastercard. Cash still helps at smaller stands.

“First time at this farm/store, and, overall, it’s great. Strawberries are tasty, donuts are delicious and so is the chicken salad. However, you need to allow yourself a decent amount of time if you want to go picking strawberries in the field. I was there on Friday at 11:30am and had to wait an hour just to get on the wagon. So keep that in mind, especially if you’re visiting with children. Organization is great, employees are nice but it’s a very busy place. I’d go back just for the chicken salad (wish I lived closer though)”

“First time visiting Tom’s Farm Market this morning for strawberry picking. The strawberry fields are in great shape. The strawberries are ripe, delicious, and plentiful for picking (excellent and fun for young kids). I was able to easily fill a box within 10 minutes. I appreciated the wagon ride, picking instructions, and organized nature of assigning a specific row for each party to pick from. I was very impressed and will definitely come back soon!”

“We had SO much fun at TOMs Farm! So much for our 1.5 year old to do. She enjoyed the barrel ride, spooky walk through the woods, the animals, & so much more. The food was very good & worth the wait (not too long 20ish minutes). The market was so cute & full of all sorts of fresh goodies & boutique gifts. Can’t wait to come back next year!”

“Toms is a great place! We've always wanted to go to the farm. I've seen the stand off Lake Street for years. We started with a latte and bagel sandwich from the café. Both were excellent. The coffee especially was absolutely delicious. Rich , creamy, and smooth. There are lots of baked goodies inside the shop. Outdoors is lovely too.”

“I have such a great experience at Tom's Farm every time I go here. Their garden center is beautiful, staff is always pleasant, and their little area to dine in so cute! Best part, Tom's dog is always on the farm and it's great to be greeted by him when I come. They have so much to offer for all seasons, they have a wonderful farm!”

“We went strawberry picking and it was so much fun, yes the strawberries are small but so sweet & delicious! After we had iced coffees, sandwiches & bunch of sweet treats everything is fantastic! Also customer service was great! Everyone made you feel like at home, everyone was so warm & kind! I highly recommend!!”

“We made the over an hour drive to Tom’s to pick strawberries and had a wonderful time. I will say that all the staff were friendly but one who was very rude and was onna high horse. The strawberries we picked were delicious and ripe. Back at the market, the donuts were very overrated and tasted nothing like strawberries- I recommend the chocolate chip cookies instead. The matcha and coffee options were also disappointing considering the reviews we have previously seen, but they definitely have better options in the marketplace than the cafe!”
