What you can pick

In October, check what’s currently ripe before you go. Seasons below are typical windows for Iowa, not a guarantee for this exact farm.

Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Iowa.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“This is a really calm and serene location that’s not too far off the main roads. Lots of souvenirs in the shops, but also they make donuts, food, wine, apple cider, all varieties of things from apples and grapes, and have a very pretty, peaceful sitting area. The outside picnic tables are also a great calming place to enjoy the views of the orchard. They sponsored a 5k which is a true cross country hill course! But if you missed it just go and enjoy the views and have a relaxing day. There’s buffalo nearby, even if they aren’t part of the orchard, they’re across the street and those are always near to see! What great place!”

“This is the second year at Fields of Flight and we love it! It's very family oriented. Lots to do and lots to eat. It's great for all ages. They have a couple play areas, a goat petting area, face painting, vendor booths and lots of food options. It's a great atmosphere and admission is inexpensive. The balloon show is pretty amazing! Definitely made this a family tradition.”

“I loved this place. Just tube in a different environment for awhile. They had bingo for free and I won! They also have a shop where you can buy salsa wine farm eggs candy. They have a vineyard and you can pick the flowers you want and put it in a cup and it's 20.00 dollars. Beautiful flowers but didn't get to thar yet. Hopefully there will be a next time!”

“Wonderful farm with tons of stuff to do! The little store inside packs quite a punch of variety and options - from homemade jarred stuff to ice cream to tater ribbon nachos!!! Great for kids and adults and everyone in between. The corn maze looks to be amazing this year too ;)”

“First time here, amazing! They got great food and a variety of drinks, not just wine! Goats were fun! A bit slow getting food during sudden rushes, but that's expected. Suzie was super nice, and did a fantastic job working hard to get all the orders out!”

“Passing through and found this awesome place. Got a flight of their ciders and all flavors were really good. Also got a flight of their fruit salsas - amazing. Enjoyed the scenery with apple tree, flowers and goats !! Highly recommend!”

“Fun apple picking $10/bag but we probably got 8 lbs minimum, flowers $1/stem, apple butter BBQ sauce $4, goat petting zoo, good walking taco and milkshake”

“We went to a candle making event! Very fun. It was dark so didnt get to see the grounds but the owners are very sweet and always have some event going on!”
