A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Maine.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“We’re from Idaho visiting Maine for the first time. This morning we stopped in to Gibson Orchard after seeing the sign on the road for yummy fall treats. The drive there was spectacular and the doughnuts are fantastic. Best of all, the owner was friendly and kind. Definitely worth the time to stop in and visit!”

“Delicious apples, well maintained orchard, friendly family and fantastic cider donuts. My only regret is I feel like we didn’t pay enough for what we got, so next time we will be adding gratuity to our order because we are grateful for this small family business! And the furry welcome wagon is a lovely bonus!”
